3.7   Consideraciones finales del Capítulo 3 55

En este capítulo se evaluó mediante simulación cómo los parámetros: retardo y pérdida de paquetes, influyen en la calidad de servicio percibida por el usuario a través de experimentos dónde se simuló el soporte de aplicaciones de voz sobre redes MANET.

Con los resultados adquiridos en las simulaciones se puede concluir que:

 La distancia máxima permitida entre dos nodos sin que ocurran pérdidas apreciables de la calidad es 100 metros, teniendo en cuenta las condiciones y parámetros impuestos en la simulación realizada, además, con menos de cinco saltos los protocolos de enrutamiento estudiados son más estables y se puede proveer mejor QoS.

 El ir aumentando progresivamente el número de nodos en un área determinada arrojó que a partir de las 100 estaciones la calidad de servicio en los tres protocolos de enrutamiento considerados no alcanza el umbral marcado por la UIT.

 La capacidad de conexiones simultáneas de los tres protocolos de ruteo es aproximadamente 15 llamadas, lo que coincide con la capacidad declarada de una 802.11 en [14]. Es necesario desarrollar nuevas estrategias para la asignación de recursos en la red y para el enrutamiento de paquetes de datos y de control, para proporcionar alta calidad de servicios múltiples con latencia razonable para un mayor número de usuarios a la vez

 Investigar el origen de los picos de retardo confirmó que los mismos tenían como causa fundamental la pérdida de enlace o conexión.

En este capítulo se usó el protocolo BATMAN como referencia, comparando los resultados obtenidos en las simulaciones realizadas con los obtenidos para BATMAN por investigadores de la comunidad científica dada la actualidad y creciente popularidad del citado protocolo.

56 | P á g i n a En este proyecto de investigación se evaluaron parámetros de calidad de servicio de VoIP mediante la simulación del soporte de aplicaciones de voz sobre redes MANET.

Se expusieron los fundamentos teóricos de las redes Ad Hoc móviles, analizándose sus principales características, aplicaciones y funcionamiento; lo que constituyó la sustentación teórica para poder llevar a cabo el proyecto investigativo.

Se identificaron que los parámetros determinantes en la calidad percibida por el usuario, en esta investigación, fueron la pérdida de paquetes y el retardo, a pesar de que existen otros parámetros que también juegan un papel fundamental como la variación del retardo y el codec utilizado.

Las afectaciones sufridas en la calidad de servicio debido a los parámetros definidos, fueron evaluadas en el desarrollo de los experimentos diseñados y se arribó a las siguientes conclusiones:

1. Existe una degradación de la calidad cuando el número de saltos aumenta por encima de cinco. Estas degradaciones se manifiestan en el aumento de la pérdida de paquetes y el retardo, ya que estos parámetros tienen un impacto directo en la calidad percibida por los usuarios.

2. La densidad de nodos para un área determinada tiene un impacto importante en el por ciento de paquetes perdidos, ya que el aumento de las estaciones provoca que se pierdan menos paquetes como consecuencia de que se minimiza la pérdida de enlace pero hay que tener en cuenta que el aumento de los nodos también provoca una carga considerable en la red.

3. La capacidad de conexiones simultáneas de los tres protocolos de ruteo es aproximadamente 15 llamadas simultáneas, lo que coincide con la capacidad declarada de una 802.11.

4. Investigar el origen de los picos de retardo encontrados en diferentes figuras graficadas a partir de resultados de simulaciones de la investigación, arrojó un resultado concreto, confirmando que los mismos tenían como causa fundamental la pérdida de enlace o conexión.

5. De acuerdo con las investigaciones realizadas por la comunidad científica, el protocolo de enrutamiento BATMAN ha demostrado gran utilidad y un desempeño adecuado en las redes MANET, brindando grandes posibilidades a la comunidad de redes inalámbricas.

Con el fin de la investigación se ha podido comprobar que dotar con calidad de servicio a Redes Ad Hoc Móviles representa un gran desafío, específicamente para la comunicación de voz sobre IP. La transmisión de este tipo de tráfico por el medio inalámbrico supone

57 | P á g i n a enfrentar un comportamiento inestable en parámetros como el retardo y la pérdida de paquetes, sin embargo existe mucha expectativa con la posibilidad de utilizar estas tecnologías (VoIP y MANET) para ofrecer telefonía móvil de bajo costo gracias a la facilidad de despliegue y a la sencillez de su infraestructura.

Los resultados obtenidos ofrecen una perspectiva en el uso de VoIP sobre MANET, contribuyen con mecanismos para evaluar el desempeño de aplicaciones de voz y sientan las bases para futuras investigaciones.
