Important new clues were produced from this mountain of research. For example, there was no longer any room to doubt that abductions primarily happened to people who had a life long track record of other paranormal experiences such as out-of-body states, ESP and poltergeist attacks. It was also found that these people often had a very high level of visual creativity. Moreover, they frequently had an almost photographic memory and tended to be able to recall events from babyhood onwards - as opposed to the average first memory of most humans, which begins at about the age of three. Did this mean that people were imagining abductions? The physical evidence and threads that bound these cases together seemed to dispute that idea. Or were aliens more able to contact people with a good visual capacity and a latent talent for ESP? Indeed, did the fact that abductees have such good memories explain the countless missing witnesses? Did only those with gifted recall know that it had happened to them?

With the Hubble telescope seeking alien life, a new project was launched by the US Government in 1992. It was designed to hunt for radio signals as in previous studies, but with sophisticated new computer technology a thousand times better than had previously been used.

Named 'Columbus' to coincide with the SOOth anniversary of his discovery of the new world, this search for new worlds in space soon hit the buffers due to the huge costs involved in running the project. However, a

learnt at MIT. He attempted to input a post hypnotic suggestion into half a dozen spacenap victims who clai med frequent abduction memories. What he wanted them to do was challenge their alien captors with news that humanity was about to fight back and was seizing control of the situation!

Immediately, one of the abductees claimed that the method had worked. They were abducted and the suggestion stirred him to wakefulness during the experience. He then told the small grays that were kidnapping him: 'We know what you are doing. We know all about you.'

Within days, five of the six abductees recalled a new spaccnapping. Independent follow-ups were carried out across the USA and Canada. Three of them spoke of the new abduction taking place on the same night - December 8, 1992 . They all awoke to find blood on their pillows and there were suggestions that implants had been put into them to try to control their memories.

During hypnosis sessions, each of the abductees told very similar stories, but had somewhat different interpretations for the new featu res \\ithin them. One thought she had been to heaven and seen dead relatives. Another spoke of being in the presence of God. 1\vo others told of similar events but placed them as being inside a UFO.

protocol was drawn up aking what to do should it pick up that elusive alien message. The protocol involved effectively dismantling the equipment to rule out the possibility of computer error, and then transferring the news to the US President for ultimate approval. The quaint idea that if ET called tonight we would all hear about it on the news tomorrow was quashed by these moves. The truth was that we would hear about it when the President decided, if at all.

One of the most intriguing n ew features to emerge was that all of these abductees now described conversations with entities whom they had never met before - tall and more human-like beings. American cases in general had always prmided less e\idence of the tall ones. There is e\idencc that the grays are often supervised by the taller beings, but because the grays do the medical examinations while the tall ones usually stay in the background, a witness - especially under hypnosis - tends not to be aware of the more human-like figures.

In one case, a male abductcc described to Sims how he had told the human-like being that the gmne wL up <md UlC abductecs were regain ing control. The alien asked the witness how he could recall his previous abductions since these had been 'blocked', md Lkcd him to point to tl1c subconscious mind in a model of a hum<m br.tin.

Before he returned to his bed, this witness recalled heating a debate between two of the tall entities now unsure L to whether their experiments could continue. These aliens blamed the grays for the problem and it was clear that there wa major disagreement <L' to the correct approach between the two groups.

The media have emphL"izcd the existence of grays to the almost total exclusion of the tall beings. As a result, anyone inventing an abduction would be unlikely to know that both entity types arc common together.

1993: THE ALIEN 0SCARS

B

y 1993, UFOlogists were receiving. increasing numbers of videos submitted by witnesses who had filmed

UFOs with their own camcorders. Rarely did these show an}1hing very exciting, most depicting hazy lights in the sky that were not real proof of alien contact.

Ontario, with the first six minutes of the tape showing a well-lit, top-shaped object spinning and flashing in the dark.

All that changed in early 1 993 with revelations about a dramatic video taken in Ontario, Canada, that would capture the public's imagination. The tape arrived in the hands of ex NASA researcher Bob Oeschler, who had established himself in the American UFO scene with firmly held be1iefs about a L'S government cover-up. The tape came from an anonymous source known as 'Guardian', who had already passed on some rather implausible written reports of alleged UFO sightings.

The video tape was
