Technical Committee on Accessibility
Preface
This standard was prepared by the Accessibility Technical Committee, under the jurisdiction of the Community Safety and Wellbeing Strategic Steering Committee, and has been endorsed by the Technical Committee. This standard has been developed in accordance with the Standards Council of Canada's requirements for the National Standards of Canada.
Accessible design for the built environment
0 Introduction
This standard also supports the principles of Universal Design (UD) as they apply to the built environment, i.e. designing environments so that they can be accessed, understood and used to the greatest extent possible by all people, regardless of age, size , ability or disability.

In this Standard, "shall" is used to express a requirement, that is, a provision that the user is required to comply with in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a. In accordance with the recommendations of the CSA B651 series of standards, and for the ease of reading the information and universal accessibility, this Standard is printed in a 14-point font size.
