Homework: Students should expect homework assignments that provide additional practice and reinforcement of skills learned in class. Failure to complete homework assignments usually results in low scores on assessments, and consequently, low grades in the class. The teacher will give feedback for homework assignments during class the day it is due, and will occasionally collect homework for participation points.

Assessments:

Quizzes and Tests: Oral and written quizzes and tests will take place on a regular basis. Students may “retake” one quiz per quarter and take the highest score earned. To “retake” a quiz, students must make arrangements with the teacher, and must complete the “retake” after school within ONE WEEK of taking the quiz the first time.  Making Up Missed Quizzes and Tests: It is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements to make up missed quizzes and tests. Students need to make up all quizzes and tests within TWO WEEKS of returning to school. Should the student choose not to contact the teacher(s) within five school days and make arrangements for work missed, the teacher is absolved of any responsibility for the student’s negligence in this matter and will record a grade of “F/0” for each of the assignments missed during the absence.

Late work: Late work will be accepted with a grade deduction of 10% per school day that it is late.

Academic Lab: Students who have a D or lower in the class will be moved to the World Language Academic Lab during Chief time. Students will work with a teacher and/or tutor until their grade is raised to at least a C. At that time, students have the option to either stay in Academic lab to continue receiving help, or to return to their normal Chief time.

Participation: Students must actively participate in class in order to master the Spanish language. Approximately 5% of your semester grade will be determined by class participation. Class participation includes completion of daily bellwork that will be turned in weekly, and oral participation in class that will be recorded weekly by the teacher.

Binder: You will need a three-ring binder which you will use in class everyday. It will document the written work you complete during class and will comprise part of your participation grade. You will divide your notebook into the following four sections and label each section in Spanish:

1. En clase (bell work, daily and group work, listening activities, lab work, etc…) 2. El vocabulario (vocabulary handouts, flashcards, and lists)

3. Los apuntes (class notes)
