Your candle will be lit in front of the Blessed Sacrament during Holy Thursday Adoration on April 13th. “So then Jesus said to them clearly, “Lazarus has died. And I am glad for you that I was not there, that you may believe. Let us go to him.”
The disciples did not understand what Jesus was talking about until He made it completely clear to them. Lazarus was not asleep but was dead, and now Jesus was going to see Lazarus so that His disci-ples might better understand who He was. Do we have any idea who Jesus is? Even when He makes it clear to us? How easy is it, when we see and feel pain all around us, to forget that He is love? How often do we fail to see Jesus in the faces of people suffering-- of the homeless, the sick, those in jail, those family members who make our lives difficult? God is in each person, even if that person ignores Him. Jesus feels compas-sion for all of us, and He suffers with us when we have difficult times, just as He wept for Lazarus’ death. We are sinners, but we are also children of God and need to trust in Him. Jesus is our Savior, our Lover, our Teacher, our Protector, our
Healer. Let us always remember who Jesus shows us He is and how He is always trying to teach us more about Himself.
“Entonces Jesús les dijo abiertamente: “Lázaro ha muerto, y me alegro por ustedes de no haber estado ahí, para que crean. Ahora, vamos allá.”
Los discípulos no entendían de lo que dijo Jesús hasta que Él aclaró
todo. Lázaro no estaba durmiendo sino estaba muerto, y ahora Jesús iba a ver a Lázaro para que Sus discípulos entenderían mejor quién era Él. ¿Tenemos nosotros alguna idea de quién es Jesús? ¿Aún cuando Él aclara las cosas? Qué fácil es, cuando vemos y sentimos dolor, de olvidarnos de que Dios es amor. ¿Cuántas veces no ve-mos a Jesús en las caras de la gente en sufrimiento-- de la gente sin casa, los enfermos, los en la cárcel, los miembros de la familia que causan problemas? Dios está en cada persona, aún si esa persona ignora a Él. Jesús siente compasión para cada uno de nosotros y sufre con nosotros cuando tenemos tiempos difíciles. Se puso a llorar por la muerte de Lázaro. Somos pecadores pero también somos hijos de Dios y debemos confiar en Él. Jesús es nuestro Salvador, nuestro Amante, nuestro Maestro, nuestro Protector, nuestro Sanador. Qué siempre recordamos el Dios que Jesús mues-tra que Él es. Él siempre está intentando enseñarnos más sobre Él mismo.
