TODAY’S READINGS
First Reading — I pleaded, and the spirit of wisdom came to me. All good things together came to me in her company (Wisdom 7:7-11).
Psalm — Fill us with your love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy! (Psalm 90).
Second Reading — Indeed the word of God is living and ef-fective (Hebrews 4:12-13).
Gospel — It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God (Mark 10:17-30 [17-27]).
GIFTS
In today’s readings, we discover that material wealth alone does not keep us from discipleship. We will see that there are other gifts more important than material wealth, but even so, it is how we use our gifts that matters most.
Today’s scriptures point to the value of the gifts of wisdom, trusting in God, and letting our actions reflect the love of God from within. It is not gold that causes us to fall, but rather the desire for gold above all other things. From the readings in Wisdom and Hebrews, we find the source of God’s gifts in our lives. Wisdom is more valuable than worldly possessions. In Hebrews, we are challenged to look at our own values and admit hon-estly what controls our lives.

DONES
En las lecturas de hoy, se descubre que la riqueza material por sí sola no nos impide ser discípulos. Vere-mos que hay otros dones más importantes que la riqueza material, pero aún así, es cómo usamos nuestros dones lo que más importa.
Las Escrituras de hoy señalan el valor de los do-nes de la sabiduría, la confianza en Dios y dejando que nuestras acciones reflejen el amor de Dios desde nuestro interior. No es el oro lo que nos hace caer, sino más bien el deseo del oro por encima de todas las demás cosas. De las lecturas de la Sabiduría y de la Carta a los Hebreos, encontramos la fuente de los dones de Dios en nuestras vidas. La sabiduría es más valiosa que las posesiones mundanas. En Hebreos se nos reta a examinar nuestros valores y admitir honestamente lo que controla nuestras vidas.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Forty-nine years ago Pope John XXIII opened the Second Vatican Council with these challenging words: “Our duty is not just to guard this treasure, as though it were some museum piece and we the curators, but . . . what is needed at the present time is a new enthu-siasm, a new joy and serenity of mind.” As the partici-pants in Vatican II proceeded with their deliberations, the first document they produced was the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, for they knew that it is from the liturgical life of the Church that everything else we do proceeds.
This seminal document, arrived at after much debate and approved virtually unanimously, set the tone for the entire Council to follow. It also set in motion the liturgical reforms that we are still implementing today. Perhaps no single phrase of the entire Vatican Council has had more influence on the life of the Church over the last half-century as the Constitution on the Liturgy’s ring-ing declaration that “full and active participation by all the people is the aim to be considered before all else.”

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
Existe en Perú un mural milagroso de la Pasión de Jesucristo. Esta imagen reconocida como el Señor de los Milagros, el Cristo Moreno o el Cristo de Pacha-camilla fue pintada por un angoleño en el siglo XVII para una cofradía de africanos. A mitad del siglo un fuerte ter-remoto sacudió a Lima y las paredes de la cofradía se cayeron, sin que se dañara el mural. Eventualmente la imagen se reveló como milagrosa para los que oraban delante de ella.
En la imagen aparece Jesús crucificado. Sobre Él el Espíritu Santo y el Padre. A la derecha de la cruz está su Madre con el corazón traspasado por una lanza y a su derecha, el fiel discípulo amado. Esta imagen es venerada como el Señor de los Milagros. Sin saberlo el artista an-goleño ha pintado una reflexión teológica sobre la divini-dad y la humanidivini-dad de Jesucristo. En su pasión redentora Jesús abre las puertas del cielo y de la comunicación en-tre el cielo y la tierra, enen-tre Dios y la humanidad repre-sentada por la Madre y el discípulo.
