March 28, 2021Estimados amigos,
Paz y bien! P. Mike

March 28, 2021
Dear friends,
Welcome to Holy Week!
Some people like to celebrate everything --- birthdays, New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, 4th of July … even Ground Hog’s Day! Others would be just as happy to
celebrate nothing.
Our Catholic tradition imposes an obligation on us to celebrate at least some things --- the Birthday of Jesus, the Resurrection of Jesus (to be celebrated on every single Sunday of the year!), and a tiny scattering of other events associated with Jesus or His mother.
For us, religious celebrations (involving Mass but also including how we spend the rest of the day) are primary ways we deepen our faith and share it. In celebra-tions we acclaim, proclaim, listen to, rejoice over, ponder … and even eat and drink … God’s great shows of love and affection.
The absolute highest of all Catholics celebrations is called Triduum --- Latin for “three days” because the feast lasts three whole days! I’m speaking, of course, of this week’s climax --- Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday/Easter. You’ll find our parish schedule in a box.
Although your obligation applies only to the last part of the feast --- Holy Satur-day/Easter --- you are very very encouraged to come to the celebration’s other days as well. The liturgy committee has determined that, weather permitting, all Triduum celebrations will be outside so we can spread out and feel safe. We’ll put out lots of extra chairs … and you are welcome to bring your own chairs as well, and sit wherever you like. (Permission is required if you want to sit on the roof or inside a gopher hole.)
And yes, we will have confessions at the normal times (8am and 8pm) on Good Friday … although no exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on that day.
Hope to see you for the celebrations. Peace, All Good! Fr. Mike PS Some people found our Sunday announcement about use of Corona-virus vac-cine use (two weeks ago) complicated or vague. Check out the box for infor-mation that is clearer.
Some people like to celebrate birthdays and some don’t. Hopefully most of you will cooperate with the government and get vaccinated so we can put this epidem-ic to rest. Remember, the Vatepidem-ican has offepidem-icially announced that it is morally per-missible for Catholics to receive the vaccine, and that to receive the vaccine promotes the common good (the good of the whole community).
For next weekend, we’ll have Masses at their normal locations … and yes there will be palms! For the outside Masses, we will hold simple (and 6-foot spaced!) processions from the far side of the field to our worship space.
If our weather permits, the Liturgy committee has decided that all Holy Week and Easter Masses be held outside so that there’s plenty of room and space for every-body.
If as yet you have done nothing for Lent, it is not too late to start. The church needs as many people to assist in its conversion and sanctification as possible. Peace, All Good! Fr. Mike
A note from the Administrator
By Kate Scanlon
Currently, three vaccines against COVID -19 have been approved for use in the United States.
The COVID-19 vaccines currently avail-able in the United States were either test-ed or productest-ed utilizing cell lines de-rived from the remains of a deceased unborn child in what may have been an abortion.
Two of the vaccines - produced by Moderna and Pfizer - did not directly use the cell lines in the design and produc-tion phases, but some laboratory tests did use those controversial cell lines. Mean-while, the latest vaccine to be approved for use in the U.S. - from Johnson & Johnson - did utilize the cell lines in all three phases.
However, while the Church teaches that abortion is an intrinisic evil, Catholic theologians have argued that the connec-tion to aborconnec-tion of each of the vaccines is remote and is not ongoing.
The chair of the U.S. bishops’ doctrine committee, Bishop Kevin Rhoades of Fort Wayne-South Bend, and the bish-ops’ pro-life committee chair, Archbish-op Joseph Naumann of Kansas City in Kansas, said that while all three vaccines are morally acceptable to use, Catholics should seek those “with the least connec-tion to aborconnec-tion-derived cell lines.” “Therefore, if one has the ability to choose a vaccine, Pfizer or Moderna’s vaccines should be chosen over Johnson & Johnson’s,” the bishops said in a statement released earlier this month. Catholics must advocate against the use of the controversial cell lines, they said, adding that “we affirm again that being vaccinated can be an act of charity that serves the common good.”

March 28, 2021Dear Parish Families,
It has been a little over a year since the Corona Virus shut down most of our parish activities including the youth ministry. This has been a long and stretching journey
and we still have a little more to go! In the midst of this journey staying hopeful has been challenging for many, including myself. However, I have been blessed, like many others, to meet Jesus again and again in the people of our parish community, the sacraments and our families. We know our God is a God of Hope and we have had an interesting opportunity this year to meet God in new ways. I know some of my faith encounters this past year have been very new and unexpected. It reminds me of the astonishing feeling the Apostles must have had when they witnessed the resurrection. When hope was lost they were placed face to face with the resurrected Christ. In a moment their faith was transformed into
something new. As lent draws closer to an end I pray we can continue to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, knowing we can trust him no matter our circumstances.
As a youth ministry we are always taking time with our leaders and teens to reflect on how God is walking with us on our journey. We ask ourselves and the teens questions like: what good has come from the challenges you have endured this past year? What are you thankful for? or what life / faith lessons have you learned this season that you hope to carry with you?
It is our hope, as the teens of our parish transition back to ordinary life, that they will recognize the blessings present during these Covid trials. So please pray for our young people, especially those so near to their Con-firmation as we will continue to pray for you.
