OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE CHURCH HERMOSA BEACH, CALIFORNIA
An Update on our Capital Campaign
Greetings and Peace. Our “Building our Faith” campaign continues as the design for the addition to our church and school; to add office space and conference rooms to the school (allowing the current school offices to be converted into a dedicated ministry space), a Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) lab, a general purpose music and arts room, and outdoor gathering space adjacent to the church entrance, awaits final permits from the city of Her-mosa Beach. We expect the construction documents to be approved any day now. The next step in this process is to meet with the Financial Services Department of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to receive a loan to cover the cost of the project we have yet to raise. To date we have raised over $2.6 Million in cash and pledges. Now that the design is complete, we have been able to get accurate pricing. We have sent the drawings out to three contractors for competitive bid and have worked with the contractors to reduce cost as much as possible. The current cost of the project is $3.8 Million. This is larger than the $3.0 Million we have been using as our fundraising goal. The main reasons for this increase are two; costs have increased since the estimate of nearly two years ago, and the engineering analysis of our soil after drilling has determined that a larger foundation than anticipated is required. To cover this larger cost, when we meet with the Archdiocese asking for approval to begin construction and receive a loan, we are additionally pledging our Fiesta money for the next five years, but still are about $1.0 Million short of the needed amount. We are still hoping to begin this summer, as the longer we wait the more expensive the project becomes. We will be asking for approval from the Archdiocese to receive a loan for this balance and begin as soon as possible. I believe this is the wisest road forward, rather than waiting. We are reaching out to two foundations for additional support and are hopeful they can help. However, as we present this cause to possible funders, it is necessary that we con-vince them that we are doing the best we can. At present we have just over 40% of our church and school families participating in this campaign. While I am grateful for all who are donat-ing, and encouraged by our progress so far, it would be a great boost to our cause if we had more participation. On top of the wall surrounding the new outdoor gathering area, we will place the names of all our donors who have pledged just slightly more than $1 a day for the next five years. We are asking that if you have not yet contributed, would you? I would love to have that wall of names filled with every one of our parishioners, or the name of someone you wish to remember, so that for many years to come, as we gather before or after Masses to get to know each other better, we can all see the names and be reminded that we accomplished this together. In the back of the church you will see a picture of the donor wall. Those who pledge $2,000 ($1.10 a day for five years) will have a name in a standard listing. A pledge of $5,000 will be remembered in a slightly larger listing with custom options, and a pledge of $10,000 will be the largest located at the top of the wall. You can pledge online at www.ourladyofguadalupechurch.org, or using the envelopes in church (with the campaign prayer on the outside). I understand if you are not able to participate at these levels. I am grateful for whatever level you can help, even if it is just by your prayers. We will no longer be reciting the campaign prayer as part of our Sunday Mass intentions, but I would ask that you continue to pray it on your own, or in your own words. It is a prayer for the growth of our church, both the physical and the spiritual, and it describes what I believe God is calling us to do as together we write this next chapter in our history of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Thank you for your prayers and support. You are continually in my prayers.
Fr. Paul

DECIMO QUINTO DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO PAGE 2 14 DE JULIO, 2019
Actualizacion de nuestra campaña de capital.
Saludos y paz. Te preguntamos si aún no has contribuido, ¿lo harías?

Families who are registered and active parishioners of our parish for three months or more, or of anoth-er parish for three months or more (with a lettanoth-er from that parish stating they are registered and active) must attend the monthly baptismal class, along with the chosen Godparents for their child, and schedule the baptism on one of the des-ignated Sundays at 1PM. If they or their chosen Godparents have attended the class within the last 2 years, they do not need to repeat it. Classes are held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church the second Wednesday of every month in the Parish Hall, 7:00-8:30 pm in English, (and first Monday of every month in Span-ish). Our Lady of Guadalupe Spring Cleaning
We clean our homes regularly. We take extra time to clean and air them out in the spring. To purge clothes, toys and household items we no longer need or use and find a new home for them if they’re in good shape. But do we take the same care in our parish church?
With the arrival of warmer weather, maybe now is the time to blow the cobwebs out (literally) and give the church hall a thorough cleaning. The kitchen, too, if it’s been a while. We may find those missing shepherds’ cos-tumes for the Christmas pageant, extra seasonal decorations, or previous editions of hymnals that another parish could use. We may even discover our church has a lot of unused vases that need to find a home. WE ARE ASKING ALL
