HISTORIA
La Universidad de Nuevo León existe como Corporación Edu-cativa desde 1933, con una interrupción, por razones de orden polí-tico, de 1934 a 1943, en que fué substituida por un Consejo de Cul-tura Superior. Desde 1943, la Universidad fué restaurada por Decre-to de la Legislatura Local del Estado de Nuevo León, que rige ahora como su Ley Orgánica.
Las Escuelas y Facultades que actualmente integran la Univer-sidad datan de las épocas más diversas. La Facultad de Derecho fué fundada, dentro del Seminario Conciliar, en 1 8 2 4 ; la Facultad de Medicina y el Colegio Civil ( h o y Escuela de Bachilleres) fueron f u n -dadas en 1856; la Facultad de Química y Farmacia ( h o y de Ciencias Químicas) fué inaugurada en 1 9 3 3 ; la de Ingeniería en el mismo año; la Escuela Nocturna de Bachilleres, en 1937; el Instituto de Investi-gaciones Científicas y el Departamento de Acción Social Universita-ria en 1943, y la Escuela de Verano en 1946.
El primer Rector provisional de la Universidad fué el Doctor don Pedro de Alba ( 1 9 3 3 ) ; después de él han regido en la Institución el Lic. don Héctor González ( 1 9 3 3 3 4 ) , el Doctor Angel M a r -tínez Villarreal ( 1 9 3 4 ) , el Profesor Gregorio Morales Sánchez
( 1 9 3 5 - 3 6 ) , y el Doctor Enrique C. Livas, como Presidente del Con-sejo de Cultura Superior de 1936 a 1943, y en carácter de Rector de esta Casa de Estudios desde el 20 de noviembre de 1943 a la fecha.

La Universidad cuenta actualmente con las siguientes Depen-dencias: Facultad de Derecho y Ciencias Sociales, Facultad de Medi-cina, Facultad de Ciencias Químicas, Facultad de Ingeniería, con Es-cuela de Arquitectura anexa, Facultad de Odontología, EsEs-cuela de En-fermería, anexa a la Facultad de Medicina, Escuela de Contadores, incorporada, Escuela de Música, Escuela Femenil de Artes y Oficios " P a -blo Livas", Escuela Industrial y Preparatoria Técnica " A l v a r o Obre-g ó n " , Escuela de Bachilleres, Escuela Nocturna de Bachilleres, Escue-la de Verano, Instituto de Investigaciones Científicas y Departamen-to de Acción Social Universitaria.
La autoridad es ejercida en la Universidad por el Consejo U n i -versitario, Corporación compuesta de los Directores de las Escuelas y Facultades, Institutos y Departamentos, el Director de Educación en el Estado, un maestro elegido por la J u n t a de Maestros de cada Dependencia, cinco representantes de la Federación de Estudiantes U n i -versitarios de Nuevo León y el Rector de la Universidad, que preside el Consejo.
Los Cursos normales son impartidos de septiembre a m a y o del siguiente año, siendo destinados los meses de junio y agosto a exáme-nes ordinarios y extraordinarios. Las vacacioexáme-nes y los descansos son decretados por el Consejo Universitario.
La Escuela de Verano depende del Departamento de Acción So-cial Universitaria y funciona entre los meses de julio y agosto de ca-da año.
ESCUELA DE VERANO
Establecida el año de 1946, la Escuela de Verano de la Univer-sidad tiene como propósito extralimitar sus funciones docentes en es-ta eses-tación del año, atrayendo a su seno a elementos universies-tarios, singularmente extranjeros, así como al libre concurrente. Sus activi-dades se fincan en las materias que más idóneamente conspiren a dar una idea justa y accesible de la cultura mexicana en los aspectos histó-rico, sociológico, artístico y literario, sin descuidar los ordinarios co-nocimientos de las materias académicas de la Universidad.
E n el sentido literario, por ejemplo, se profesarán Cursos de Li-teratura Mexicana, desde sus orígenes hasta nuestros días; un Curso so-bre la literatura local, denominado Letras de Nuevo León, y u n o soso-bre Literatura Cervantina, que responde al propósito de celebrar el
cua-dringentésimo aniversario del nacimiento del Príncipe de las Letras Españolas, Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra.
Los Cursos sobre Arqueología, Antropología e Historia del Mé-xico antiguo contienen en su material objetivo la Exposición de Arte Prehispánico, del Museo Nacional de México, que exhibe las obras maestras más representativas de las altas Culturas mexicanas, (joyas de oro, cristal de roca, basalto, alabastro, madera tallada y j a d e ) , con el asocio de eruditas Conferencias que estarán a cargo de los Señores 'Ingeniero Ignacio Marquina, Director del Instituto Nacional de A n
tropología, Doctor Daniel F. Rubín de la Borbolla, Director del M u -seo Nacional, y Licenciado Salvador Toscano, eminente crítico de arte y Secretario del Instituto.
Gracias a la colaboración del Departamento de Artes Plásticas de la Secretaría de Educación Pública, la Universidad ofrece la exposición de la obra pictórica de Saturnino Herrán.
Habrá, asimismo, interesantes Conferencias que se refieran al nuevo sentido de la Plástica mexicana moderna, auxiliadas por pro-yecciones, y una serie de Conferencias sobre Historia- de la Arquitectu-ra, en los sucesivos aspectos prehispánico, colonial y contemporáneo.
La Sección de Ciencias Médicas está consagrada a presentar Cur-sos teórico prácticos para postgraduados, de los conocimientos más so-licitados de la Terapéutica moderna, como Gastroenterología, Neumo-tisiología y Cirugía de Urgencia, que serán atendidos, en parte, por los más acreditados Maestros de la Facultad de Medicina de la Univer-sidad Nacional A u t ó n o m a de México.
Se impartirán, además, asignaturas de carácter técnico como E n o -logía y Vinicultura, Materias Primas Minerales, y otros, así como Cursos sobre Ciencias fisicoquímicas y fisicomatemáticas.

C A R A C T E R D E L O S C U R S O S — Se ha convenido en dividirlos en Cursos de Perfeccionamiento Profesional y Cursos Libres, aunque el alumnado que asista a los mismos pueda ser mixto.
Los primeros se llevarán en la cuenta los estudios del asistente, el que presentará un t r a b a j o al finalizar el ciclo, y recibirá un Diplo-ma, calificaciones y notas de asistencia.
El libre concurrente será acreedor a notas de asistencia.

Valor de la inscripción por Cursillo: $ 2 5 . 0 0 moneda nacional, o su equivalente en otros páíses.
La Oficina de la Escuela proporcionará a los estudiantes los te-marios, bibliografías y horarios de cada Cursillo, así como los Catálogos especiales editados para las actividades de mayor relieve ( E x p o -sición de Arte Prehispánico, Expo-sición " S a t u r n i n o H e r r á n " , etc.)

T h e University consists at present of the following schools: Faculty of L a w and Social Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Chemical Sciences, Faculty of Engineering w i t h a School of A r -chitecture Annex, Faculty of Dentistry, School for Nurses, an A n n e x t o the Faculty of Medicine, Incorpotated School for Accounts, School of Music, School of Arts and Crafts for W o m e n " P a b l o Livas", In-dustrial and Preparatory Technological School "Alvaro Obregon," Preparatory School, Preparatory Night School, Summer School, Institute of Scientific Research, and Department of University Social Action.
T h e authority in the University is exercised by the University Board, which is a Corporation formed by the Directors of the Schools and Faculties, Institutes and Departments, the Director of Education of the State, a professor w h o is elected by the Board of Teachers of each department and five representatives of the Students Federation of the University of Nuevo Leon, and by the Rector of the University, w h o is also Chairman of the Board.
T h e Summer School depends upon the Department of Social Action of the University.
T h e normal Courses are given in the University of Nuevo Leon f r o m September t o M a y of the following year, the months of June and August being devoted to ordinary and extraordinary examinations and recesses are decreed by the University Board.
T h e Summer School functions during the months of J u l y and August of each year.
S U M M E R S C H O O L
Established in the year 1946, the Summer School of the U n i -versity aims at extralimiting its educational functions in this season of the year, calling to its bosom, university elements, singularly foreign, as well as irregular students. Its activities are based on the subjects which more efficiently contrive in giving a fair and accesible odea of the Mexican Culture in the historic, sociological, artistic, and literary aspects, w i t h u o t overlooking the ordinary knowledge of the academic subjects of the University.
In the literary sense, for example, Courses on Mexican Literature will be given, f r o m its origin up to this day; a course on local literature, ca led Letters of Nuevo Leon, and one on Cervantine Literature, which answers the purpose of celebrating the f o u r t h Centennial of
the birth of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, Prince of the Spanish Letters.
T h e Courses on Archeology, Anthropology and History of old Mexico contain in their objective material the Exposition of Pre Spanish Art, the National Museum of Mexico which displays the most representative works of art t o the high Mexican Cultures (gold jewels, quartz, basalt, alabaster, carved wood, and j a d e ) , together w i t h Lectures which will be given by M r . Ignacio Marquina, engineer, Director of the National Institute of Anthropology, M r . Daniel F. Rubin de la Borbolla, M . D . Director of the National Museum, and M r . Salvador Toscano, LI. D., prominent critic w h o is also Secretary of the Institute.
T h a n k s to the cooperation of the Department of Plastic Arts of the Department of Public Education, the University presents the exposition of the pictorial w o r k of Saturnino Herran.
T h e r e will be, at the same time, interesting Lectures referring to the new idea of the modern Mexican Plastic, illustrated by cinematographic pictures and a series of Lectures on the History of Architecture, in the successive aspects: preSpanish, colonial and contemporary.
T h e Medical Science Department is devoted t o present theoretic-practical Courses for post graduates on the most popular knowledge on modern therapeutics, as Gastroenterology, Pneumothysiology and Emergency Surgery, will be given by the best Professors of the Faculty of Medicine of the National A u t o n o m o u s University of Mexico City.
Besides these, subjects of a technical character will be given, such as W i n e making, Vine - culture, Mineral R a w Materials, and others, as well as Courses on physic-chemical, and physic mathematic Sciences.

C H A R A C T E R O F T H E C O U R S E S . — I t has been agreed to divide them in Courses of Professional Perfectioning and courses for irregular students although the alumni assisting t o them may be mixed.
In the former, the studies of the student will be taken in consideration, and he will be required to present some works at the end of the cycle, and will receive a diploma, points, and assistance notes.
T h e irregular student will have a right t o assistance notes.
T h e School Office will give students the lists of subjects, bibliographies and time tables for each course, as well as the special catalogues edited f o r the most outstanding activities (Exposition of Pre-Spanish A r t , Exposition "Saturnino H e r r á n " , etc.)
T h e entrance fee per course is $ 2 5 . 0 0 Mexican Currency, or its equivalent in other countries.
