IT’S ALL IN THE BASKET
St. Therese of Lisieux made a point of going the extra mile in kindness towards those people who really got under her skin. It was part of her own brand of Everyday Stewardship — thanking God for all His creation, even the parts with which, in her own humanness, she struggled to cope.
I think about this a lot when I challenge myself to give thanks for things that bother me and people who challenge me. When I do this, I envision Christ giving thanks over those insufficient loaves. How many of us would see that paltry little basket and kick a rock in frustration because we can’t feed all our people? “You didn’t give me enough, Lord! You didn’t give me enough patience, enough money, enough creativity, enough stamina to be a good steward. If you had given me more, I could also give more!”
In those moments of despair, we need to take a good look at the life God has given us. We need to look at the trials and the challenges and the shortcomings. The hopes that didn’t pan out, the disappointments that keep cropping up. Somewhere therein lies what we need to be the steward God asks us to be, just as St. Therese’s own stewardship was defined by the people she simply couldn’t stand.
God does not give us all we want. He does not give us all we ask for. He does us one better: He gives us all we need. It’s all in the basket.

Santa Teresa de Lisieux hizo hincapié por hacer un esfuerzo adicional en
amabilidad hacia aquellas personas que realmente le molestaban. Era parte de su propia marca de corresponsabilidad diaria: agradecer a Dios por toda Su creación, incluso las partes que, en su propia humanidad, luchaba por afrontar.
Pienso mucho en esto cuando me desafío a mí mismo a dar gracias por las cosas que me molestan y las personas que me desafían. Cuando hago esto, me imagino a Cristo dando gracias por esos panes insuficientes. ¿Cuántos de nosotros
veríamos esa canasta insignificante y patearíamos una piedra en frustración porque no podemos alimentar a toda nuestra gente? "¡No me diste suficiente, Señor! No me diste suficiente paciencia, suficiente dinero, suficiente creatividad, suficiente resistencia para ser un buen corresponsable. ¡Si me hubieras dado más, yo también podría dar más! "
En esos momentos de desesperación, debemos echar un buen vistazo a la vida que Dios nos ha dado. Necesitamos mirar las pruebas, los desafíos y las deficiencias. Las esperanzas que no dieron resultado, las decepciones que siguen
apareciendo. En algún lugar ahí radica lo que necesitamos para ser el corresponsable que Dios nos pide que seamos, así como la propia corresponsabilidad de Santa Teresa fue definida por las personas que ella simplemente no podía soportar. Dios no nos da todo lo que queremos. No nos da todo lo que pedimos. Hace algo mejor: nos da todo lo que necesitamos. Está todo en la canasta.

Return Our Gifts with Increase
Stewardship is: Recognizing that everything we have and are is a gift from God & Understanding that how we use our gifts is our gift back to God.
Living a stewardship lifestyle means: Placing our complete trust in God; Sharing all of our gifts, especially the one that means the most to us; Keeping God first in
everything and not placing other “gods” before God; Living a more God-centered and less self-centered life; Expecting nothing in return and recognizing that no gift is too small to share.
Stewardship requires action. The action of past generations is what built the Church. It is our responsibility to develop and nurture our gifts for future generations. As St. Francis of Assisi said, “Preach the Gospel at all times. Use words when necessary.” Stewardship isn’t easy, but it has tremendous rewards ‐ Love, Peace and Joy on earth and eternal life in heaven!
