T his feast is traditionally seen as one of the feasts of “Epiphany”--in other words, the presenting of the Divine to the world. The eternal Logos of God, the 2nd Person of the Holy Trinity, hidden in a human being--the Christ Child-- is presented in the Temple, which also is a rite of purification for His Mother, Mary. Why did she need purification? She had just cooperated with God in the on-going act of creation, as does every woman who gives birth, thus, she was thought to be too full of Divine Power--sort of like having the Divine Energy like an electrical transformer has electrical power. She needed to be “re-grounded.”
And the Child, who, in the words of Wordsworth, like all newborn children, “trailing clouds of Glory as we come from God,” is also presented and grounded in our world. The first reading speaks of this Divine Energy that can be like a refiner’s fire.
The second reading speaks of why God had to come to the world in human form. And the Gospel speaks of how this “human form of God” will be that “Refiner’s Fire,” causing the downfall and the rise of many. Because the “Light of the World” is presented to us, today, it is traditional to bless can- dles on this feast, known throughout Europe as
“Candlemas,” or “la chandaleur,” or “candelario.”

Ella apenas había coope- rado con Dios en la creación continua, así como cual- quier otra mujer que da a luz, así entonces se le consi- deró como si tuviera mucho Poder Divino- así como tener la Energía Divina como tiene poder un transfor- mador eléctrico. Ella necesitaba que ser “reconectada a la tierra.” Y el niño, quien, en las palabras de Wi- lliam Wordsworth, como todo niño recién nacido,
“dibujando nubes de Gloria de Dios,” es también pre- sentado y conectado a la tierra en nuestro mundo. La primera lectura habla de esta Energía Divina que pue- de ser como el fuego de una refinadora. E ste año, la festividad de la Presentación cae en un domingo, ofreciendo a toda la asamblea dominical la oportunidad de compartir elementos litúrgicos distintivos de este día. Uno de estos es la bendición de las veladoras, las que pueden llevar a casa y alumbrar toda el año. Éste es una señal final de Navidad hasta el próximo año, y celebramos la luz de Jesús en nuestro mundo. Lu- chemos a traer esa luz del mundo todo este año.
También empezamos el Mes de la Historia Africana con las libaciones al principio de la Misa para convocar a nuestros antepasados. Nuestro patrimonio es muy impor- tante para recordar porque nos transforma en diferentes maneras. Mi papá no era católico hasta que se casó con mi mamá. Mi abuela se convirtió cuando tenía 20 años.
Creo para mí, la fe siempre se nos enseñó como algo que se puede escoger y no sólo de por el azar. Creo que tam- bién me ha dado la inquietud de aprender de mi fe. ¿Qué es lo que te ha enseñado tu patrimonio? Comparte con tu familia la riqueza de tu cultura y de tu historia.

his year, the feast of the Presentation falls on a Sunday, offering the entire Sunday assembly the opportunity to share in some of the distinctive liturgical features of this day. One of these is the blessing of candles which can then be brought home to burn brightly throughout the year in your homes. This is the last glimmer of Christmas until next year, and we celebrate the light that Jesus is to our world. Let us strive to bring that light to the world around us throughout the year.We also begin Black History Month today with the liba- tions at the beginning of Mass to call to memory our ancestors.
Our heritage is important to remember because it has shaped us in many ways. I know for me, Catholicism did not have along history in my family. My Dad was a non-catholic until he mar- ried my Mom. My mother’s mother was a convert in her early 20’s. I guess for me, the faith was always taught as something you choose and not just take for granted. I think it has also made me want to learn about the faith and not just take for granted what someone else has taught me. What has your heritage taught you and how has it shaped your life? Share with your family and friends the insights you have gleamed from your thoughtful glance at your history.

I am in the process of selling my home in Palmdale, CA and mak- ing a transition to Texas, yes Texas!! My only child
lives in Frisco, TX which is just outside of Dallas County. She has tried for several years to entice me to move, so after much soul searching I decided to join her in April. A decision was made to transition a new person in as Business Manager beginning in February.
It has been a pleasure to serve the Father, His Son and the Holy Spirit as well as the Parishioners of this Gem of the Archdiocese as the Business Manager. As I walked the premises I saw many things that needed to be corrected or improved. Decisions were made to make the improvements. It was always my intent to bring solutions, not create problems. I do hope changes that were made have met with your satisfaction.
I wish to thank you for the opportunity to serve you and wish everyone a joyous and spirit filled year.

Estoy en el proceso de vender mi casa en Palmdale, California, y hacer una transición a Texas, sí Texas! Mi única hija vive en Fris- co, TX, que está justo fuera del Condado de Dallas. Ella ha tratado durante varios años para atraerme para vivir con ella, así que des- pués de mucha meditación y oración decidí unirme con ella en abril. Se tomó la decisión de hacer la transición a una nueva perso- na como Gerente de Negocios a partir de febrero .
Ha sido un placer servir al Padre, Hijo y el Espíritu Santo, así co- mo a todos los feligreses de esta joya de la Arquidiócesis como Gerente de Negocios . Mientras caminaba las premisas vi muchas cosas que necesitaban ser corregidos o mejorados . Se tomaron decisiones para hacer las mejoras . Siempre fue mi intención de aportar soluciones, no crear problemas. Yo espero que fueron hechos con su satisfacción.

Minis- try and together we blessed our Saturday guests with the leftovers from the Christmas Dinner each Saturday in January At the end we share the ham bones for beans or soup and turkey carcasses for soup. with our guests. The smiles on our guests faces were heart warming and soul stirring. In the prayer circle Mama Rhodes prayed to God the provider giving Him
"praise and gratitude for the car- ing people at St. Agatha." The God in you "shonuff" is shining
through. Amen
You know God sends our faithful volunteers to serve up dignity, respect, love and to stimu- late and encourage hope in our guests each Saturday. Azalie, Yolanda and Kirlin (she is back for a few wks before she relocates) are the Leaders that set the compas- sionate, warm atmosphere for our volunteers to be comfortable in serving and wanting to return.
Our current volunteers serve as a family Concepcion with her grand daughter Sydney, the brothers Rolando, Enrique and David, Maria and her son Joshue, Flora and her daughters Tanya and Rosie . These families spent a large portion of their Saturday's working for God and giving back
blessings and passing on their gifts from God of time and talent to our guests. They come faithfully to serve and be a blessing. Joshue is 13 and is an artist . One Satur- day when he came to serve we ran out of lunches, this made an im- pression on young Joshua and he told his mother Maria I want to be in the Boutique to help
S.H.A.R.E. . He donated his entire earnings from selling his art to the S.HA.R.E. Ministry so that we will not run out of lunches and turn anyone who is hungry away again.
How proud Maria must be of her son. God's wingless angels come in all forms, children, adults, old, young,and every hue. G God is good all the time all the time God is good He gives us a
compassionate supportive church family that encourages service to those who are in need. We thank you and appreciate your sharing of your prayers, time, talent and treas- ures when we reach our hands out to you. It isn't easy in this econ- omy but you make the sacrifice.
