Get the right care and supports

We’re here to help you get quality health care like

doctor visits, hospitalizations, and prescription

drugs. We provide you with all your STAR+PLUS

health-care and long-term services and supports

benefits.

We work closely with doctors and hospitals in

your community to get you the right care, close to

home. This includes:



Assigning you a service coordinator (if needed

based on your health or if you ask for one)



Long-term services and supports, if needed



Well-care



Community-based care and services



Our 24-hour Nurse HelpLine

If you get services through the ICF-IID program

or an IDD waiver and don’t qualify for Medicare,

you get your acute care services only under

STAR+PLUS. The Texas Department of Aging and

Disability Services (DADS) provides your long

term services and supports benefits.

If you also have Medicare

If you have both Medicare and Medicaid,

Medicare will provide your health-care benefits,

such as doctor visits, hospitalizations, behavioral

health, and prescriptions. If you need long-term

services and supports, we will provide them.

Choose your own primary care provider

If you don’t already have a primary care provider,

you can choose one from our large network. Just

pick one listed in this book. Your primary care

provider will get to know you and your health

history, and refer you to specialists.

If you have both Medicare and Medicaid, you will

choose a primary care provider from your

Medicare plan’s network.

Get help with long-term services and

supports

If you live at home and need help with things like

eating, light housekeeping, fixing meals, or

personal care, we have services to help you. We’ll

have a service coordinator talk to you and your

doctors about your health. This will help us

understand your needs. Once the service

coordinator assesses your needs, he or she will

tell you about the long-term services and

supports you may be able to get, including:



Personal assistance services



Assisted living



Adult day care

Your service coordinator will work with you to

develop a service plan. He or she will see you

regularly to make sure your care and services are

working for you. To learn more about long-term

services and supports, refer to the member

handbook.

Get behavioral health services

If you need mental health or substance abuse

services, you can get them without a referral from

your primary care provider. Call us 24 hours a

day, 7 days a week at 1-800-600-4441 (TTY 711).

Get OB/GYN services

You can choose an OB/GYN from this list without

a referral from your primary care provider. Your

OB/GYN benefits include:

One well-woman checkup a year



Care during pregnancy



Care for any female health condition



Referrals to specialists in our network

You can even choose an OB/GYN as your primary

care provider. Call us at 1-800-600-4441

your primary care provider.

Get family planning services

We can help you get counseling and education

about preventing pregnancy. You can:

Texas Health Steps medical checkups help

children stay healthy. Babies and children need

more health care to grow up healthy. These

checkups also help doctors find problems early

when they are easier to treat. These checkups

include:



Height/weight checks



Immunizations



Tests for TB, lead, and other health problems



Eye and ear tests



Tips about safety and health

You can get these checkups for children age 20

and younger from any Texas Health

Steps-certified provider. You don’t need a referral. For

help finding a primary care provider for your

Amerigroup members in the Medicaid Rural

Service Area and the STAR Kids program are

served by Amerigroup Insurance Company; all

other Amerigroup members in Texas are served

by Amerigroup Texas, Inc.
