WHY UTS?

WATCH HOW COLLABORATIVE LEARNING SPACES ARE WELCOMING A NEW ERA OF TEACHING AND LEARNING AT UTS.

NUBIA RODRIGUEZ CONTRERAS, COLOMBIA

MASTER OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

PRACTICAL AND COLLABORATIVE LEARNING

UTS offers an innovative and practice-oriented learning environment in world- class facilities. Students build their knowledge in a real-world context through projects, group work and real-life case studies.

UTS’s buildings and facilities support student and staff interaction and inquiry by providing spaces for project work, teamwork activities and relaxation. New and recently renovated buildings offer flexible environments, informal learning spaces, places for group collaboration and social hubs to relax – indoors and outdoors.

STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITIES

UTS’s new Engineering and IT Building features a brand-new data arena, and the new Science and Health Building contains a ‘super lab’, one of only two in Australia.

HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE

UTS courses are renowned for their practice-based approach. We equip our students with as much hands-on experiences as possible, making them attractive to prospective employers.

“The UTS teaching system was very helpful for my learning process at

university. I strongly feel the best approach to learning is within a practical, team-based environment with a focus on solving

authentic real-world problems.

I was very pleased to discover almost all of the IT subjects I undertook at UTS were of this nature. This structure, coupled with lengthy laboratory sessions in state-of-the- art facilities, provided me with the

opportunity to develop my education in a similar manner and environment which could be expected at the world’s leading companies.”

CONNECT WITH INDUSTRY

UTS has partnerships with more than 150 companies, giving you the opportunity to engage with experts and access cutting-edge facilities on and off campus. For example, UTS’s collaboration with Alcatel-Lucent exposes engineering students to Alcatel-Lucent training materials and their certification program, and allows students to use the company’s facilities.

Each faculty at UTS has an industry advisory board. Courses are developed in consultation with industry to ensure students are learning the most up-to-date techniques and industry best practice. Many of our courses are also accredited by a wide range of professional associations and governing bodies, giving students the capacity to work internationally.

UTS courses include major projects, real-life case studies, extensive group work and field trips, and include professional placement and work experience subjects, which equip students with valuable practical skills. Internship opportunities also help students place their knowledge in a real-world context.

“U:PASS leaders don’t teach like a normal session. If you bring some problems, they solve the problem together with you, not for you. They give you the skills and the ideas, which is more helpful, rather than giving you the solution.”

“The BUiLD program isn’t the only

extracurricular program you can do at UTS – there are so many different ones. But I think if I was an employer and I was going to hire a graduate student – if they had been involved and engaged in other activities outside of university hours – that proves that they have intellectual skills and a genuine interest in learning and developing.

The Vietnam trip I went on with BUiLD was so well-structured. It was quite a diverse group of students – we were all studying different disciplines. I have a particular interest in human rights, for example, while others were doing business and science.

This was also reflected in the study visits throughout the program where we visited a wide range of different organisations and businesses. Some visits included ANZ Bank, The Blue Dragon Foundation (a not-for- profit organisation supporting street kids) and a sustainable helmet factory. The BUiLD program has definitely encouraged my thinking in terms of what I want to do when I graduate.”
