The following is a list of the students that have been nominated to audition for the opportunity to perform at the 2018 Michigan Youth Arts Festival Gala Concert on Friday, May 11, 2018.

The first round auditions will take place at Central Michigan University on Friday, April 6, 2018 starting at 9:30 am. Finalists from the morning first round will be announced at 12:30 pm. At approximately 1:30 pm, the final round of auditions will take place. Four soloists will be selected to perform at the festival.

BEFORE THE DEADLINE.

Instrumental auditions will take place Friday, April 6, 2018 at Central Michigan University, Mt.

Pleasant. Auditions begin at 9:30 am. Final auditions will begin near 1:30 pm and conclude at

A schedule of performance times for the instrumental semi-final auditions will be posted on the website,

www.msboa.org on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 in the afternoon. Please do not expect it earlier.

PLEASE BE ADVISED

The selection process for Honors Band and Orchestra is different than the Soloist Audition. Students are invited

to be members of the Honors Band and Orchestra strictly by proficiency scores. Many soloist candidates could

receive both an Honors Band or Orchestra invitation and this Soloist invitation. Some could receive a Soloist

invitation and not an Honors Band and Orchestra invitation.

MYAF SOLOIST AUDITIONS

ALL ENTRIES

1. The finalists must perform the same composition at the Michigan Youth Arts Festival on Friday night, May

11, 2018 that they performed for the auditions.

2. All performances Must Be Memorized and must be at least five (5) minutes in length, and no longer than

eight (8) minutes. Selections may be cut to conform to the 8 minute length. Performances will be stopped

at 8 minutes.

3. Participants must provide two scores of the piece being performed for use by the adjudicators. One copy

needs to be an original. Failure to do so will mean elimination.

4. Adjudicators may recall participants in the event of a tie.

5. Participants must provide their own piano accompanist for the audition. NO recorded or Smart Music

accompaniment or unaccompanied performances are allowed.

6. Selections performed MUST have an orchestral accompaniment available for purchase or rental.

MYAF will pay for the orchestral accompaniment for the soloists selected to perform.
