A lo largo de 10 mil años los antiguos peruanos acumularon importantes conocimientos respecto de los usos y propiedades de las especies nativas. Como resultado, el Perú mantiene un registro de usos conocidos de 4.400 plantas y es considerado el primer país en el mundo en cuanto a conocimiento de medicina tradicional.

En la actualidad, el mercado mundial demanda nuevos alimentos, sabores y presentaciones. Las últimas tendencias se concentran en la búsqueda de alimentos saludables y nutritivos. Esto ha dado origen a nuevas oportunidades de negocio que tienen como objetivo posicionarse en mercados verdes a través de alimentos orgánicos, productos nutraceúticos e insumos gourmet.

Es responsabilidad de todos los peruanos emprender iniciativas que promuevan la conservación y el uso sostenible de nuestros recursos, con miras a aprovecharlos en función de las nuevas tendencias del mercado. PROMPERÚ, en su esfuerzo por internacionalizar la oferta de nuestra biodiversidad presenta el Catálogo Perú Productos Naturales, para que sirva como herramienta de promoción para la consolidación de nuestra oferta en mercados promisorios en un marco de equidad social y sostenibilidad ambiental.

Peru is one of the ten most biodiverse countries in the world, with eighty-four life zones and twenty-eight different types of weather. Such facts make it possible for Peru to be home to an overwhelming variety of plants and animals, many of which are still unknown to science.

Along 10,000 years, former Peruvians amassed knowledge on native plant species’ uses and properties. Consequently, Peru has a record of known uses for 4400 plants and is known as the number one in the list for traditional medicine knowledge.

At present, the international market is demanding new foods, flavors, and packaging. Latest trends are focusing on healthy nutritious foods, giving rise to new business opportunities for positioning organic products, nutraceuticals, and gourmet ingredients in the green market.

It is the responsibility of each and every Peruvian to launch initiatives to promote conservation and sustainable use of our resources for the purpose of taking advantage of new market trends. PROMPERU in an effort to internationalize our biodiversity developed the catalogue

“Peru Natural Products”, as a tool moving forward with the consolidation of the supply in promising markets, under the principles of social equity and environmental sustainability.
