Introduction and explanatory notes

Statistical Indicators for Asia and the Pacific

is a publication designed to provide up-to-date monthly data for the purpose of assessing

the short-term demographic and economic trends in countries or areas of the region. It has been offered in print on a quarterly basis from

1971 to 2003. From January 2004 onwards, the quarterly releases have only been electronic at

<

http://www.unescap.org/stat/data/statind/

>.

The main part of the publication represents the monthly data released online in December 2004 for selected countries and areas of

the region. The publication starts, however, with 17 tables that cover comparative annual socio-economic indicators for all regional

members and associate members of ESCAP.
