Por muchos años el filtro Sporlan Catch-All ó el filtro de aspiración SF-283-F han sido usados en sistemas de refrigeración rack que usan aceite mineral o alcalbenzeno como lubricante.
Con el creciente uso de los nuevos aceites polyester (POE), la química del sistema ha cambiado. A diferencia de los aceites mineral y alcalbenzeno, el aceite POE tiene la capacidad de suspender y recircular contaminantes sólidos de pequeño tamaño que son dejados en el sistema después de su
instalación ó servicio. Análisis de muestras de aceite tomadas de instalaciones reales mostraron que este tipo de aceite suspende y recircula una gran concentración de particulas con tamaños entre 2 y 20 micrones, con el mayor porcentaje entre 2 y 10 micrones. Aunque algunas particulas son más pequeñas que las tolerancias de los cojinetes, estudios han demostrado que la vida de los cojinetes es afectada negativamente. El desgaste de cojinetes depende del tamaño, dureza y concentración de partículas en circulación. Para eliminar efectivamente estas pequeñas partículas, Sporlan desarrolló un nuevo tipo de filtro de acetie.
Los Filtros de Aceite Serie OF están diseñados para ser 99% eficientes en la eliminación de partículas de 3 micrones y tener aún suficiente capacidad de flujo a una baja caída de presión. La insuperable capacidad de filtrado de los Filtros de Aceite Serie OF asegura que el aceite POE, mineral ó
alcalbenzeno regresa limpio a los componentes. El suministro de aceite limpio asegura una operación sin problemas del control de nivel de aceite y minimiza el desgaste de los compresores. Los Filtros de Aceite Serie OF de Sporlan fueron diseñados para virtualmente eliminar la necesidad de cambios de aceite motivados por la circulación de contaminantes sólidos en suspención.

The Sporlan Catch-All or SF-283-F Suction Filter has been used for many years as an oil filter in systems with mineral or alkylbenzene based lubricants.
With the use of the new polyolester (POE) oils, system chemistry has changed.
Unlike mineral and alkylbenzene oils, POE oil has solvent-like tendencies.
POE oil has the ability to suspend and recirculate small, solid contaminants left from system installation or retrofit. Analysis of POE oil samples taken from actual systems have shown the oil to suspend and recirculate a high con- centration of 2-20 micron sized particles, with the largest percentage between 2-10 microns. Although some particles are smaller than bearing tolerances, studies have shown bearing life can still be affected. Bearing wear depends upon the size, hardness, and concentration of particles in circulation. To effec- tively remove these small particles, Sporlan developed a new type of oil filter.
The OF Series Oil Filtersare designed to be 99% efficient in removing 3 micron sized particles and yet have sufficient flow capacity at a low pressure drop.
The unsurpassed filtration ability of the OF Series Oil Filterswill assure clean POE, mineral, or alkylbenzene oil is returned to the compressors. Clean oil insures proper operation of the oil level control and minimizes compressor wear. The Sporlan OF Series Oil Filterswere designed to virtually eliminate the need for oil changes resulting from suspended solid contaminants in circulation.
The OF-303-BP illustration shows the normal flow pattern of oil through the filter.
The design of the OF-303 is similar to the OF-303-BP, but the OF-303 is supplied without the bypass feature. Either filter can be installed in a horizontal or vertical position.

This illustration shows the flow pattern of oil through the ROF-413 Replaceable Oil Filter. The ROF-413 utilizes an replaceable OFE-1 Oil Filter Element.
The ROF-413 must be installed vertically, with the end plate in the “up” position. A refrigeration clamp or a Sporlan A-175-1 Mounting Bracket should be used for easy installation. Removal of Mounting Bracket or connection of refrigerant grade hoses to inlet and out- let fittings on filter end plate allow for flexibility in changing the OFE-1 Filter Element.
Because of numerous piping schemes, inlet and outlet fittings are not supplied with the ROF-413. PUR- CHASE END PLATE FITTINGS SEPARATELY.
Installation requires two fittings that connect to the 3/8” pipe threaded holes in the aluminum end plate. A Schrader type access valve is supplied with the ROF-413. The valve allows for pressure relief within the canister when changing the OFE-1 Filter Element.
The use of the ROF-413 is recommended for highly contaminated systems and/or applications where the filter would be routinely changed. This may result in a cost savings over the life of the system.

The OF Series Oil Filtersare designed to be installed where a Sporlan Catch- All or SF-283-F Suction Filter may currently be used in an oil line. Typically, an OF Series Oil Filter would be installed in the oil line between the oil reservoir and the oil header of a refrigeration rack with a low pressure oil system. If the OF-303-BP is used on a low pressure oil system, it should be installed between the oil separator and oil reservoir. On a high pressure oil system, an OF Series Oil Filterwould be installed between the oil reservoir and the oil header.

The OFE-1 is a replaceable filter element for the ROF-413 Oil Filter. The OFE-1 Element can be installed by completely sliding the filter over the post on the aluminum end plate of ROF-413 Oil Filter. The O-ring seal on the OFE-1 prevents contaminant bypass. The OFE-1 Filter Element is NOT supplied with the ROF-413.
The A-175-1 Mounting Bracket can be used for the ROF-413 Replaceable Oil Filter. One bracket per package. All brackets are sup- plied with a bolt, nut, and washer. One brack- et is adequate for mounting the ROF-413. The A-175-1 mounting bracket is NOT supplied with the ROF-413.
