RELIGIOUS ARTICLES SALE FROM HOLY LAND On Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 15 and 16, we will have a special opportunity to view products and creations in wood created by the hands of Christian artisans in and around the Holy Land region. The Rishmawi Family has been designated as the representative for these wonderful Christian artisans and has been authorized to show their olive wood carvings.

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP

I love watching replays of great sports highlights. Sometimes you see something so extraordinary that you tell others they have to see it to believe it. The one-handed catch, the in-the-park home run, and the photo finish are all examples of these types of moments. They are amazing feats that boggle the mind. I wonder how many people in biblical times saw Jesus perform miracles and told others they wouldn’t have believed it unless they saw it with their own eyes. Of course, we believe the stories of his miracles, and we didn’t see them in person. We do believe them, don’t we? There is no television program that features replays of the actual miracles Jesus performed 2,000 years ago. However, there are miracles every day for the world to see. Many of those come about by allowing God to work through us. People are waiting to be healed and fed, and mountains are waiting to be moved. There might not be a replay for these miracles either. However, people will be amazed by the power of God. Jesus said we could do these things if we had faith. Blessed are those who believe but who have not seen. Furthermore, blessed are those who perform great works with God so that others may see.

We know the signs of defeat: slumped shoulders, downcast eyes, a chastened demeanor. For those of us sincerely trying to follow Jesus, defeat is inevitable. We commit to spending more time with our kids, but that one project still looms. We resolve to be a good person, but our selfishness strikes again. It can be easy to get discouraged over our moral failures. Today’s Gospel is a small, intriguing look at this process in the life of St. Peter. First, Jesus’ questions get the Apostles thinking about his true identity. This results in a confession of faith from Peter: “You are the Christ.” Eager faith characterizes Peter’s relationship with Jesus. First to follow, first to leap out of the boat, and, we know, first to deny. It’s the latter tendency that manifests itself later in the Gospel. When Jesus predicts the Passion, “Peter took him aside and began to

rebuke him.” Jesus’ rebuke in turn is stinging. While Peter’s

caution to Jesus is in private, Jesus intentionally turns back to the others as he declares, “Get behind me, Satan. You are thinking not

as God does, but as human beings do.” Like Peter, we rarely get it

right all the time. Peter understood that Jesus was the Messiah, but he had a false concept of what that Messiah would accomplish. Jesus wants to make sure the rest of the disciples don’t follow down the wrong road. The Christian life is a difficult one, as Jesus later tells the crowds. “‘Whoever wishes to come after me must

deny himself.’” Yet the mercy of God is abundant. If we renew our

trust and our efforts after a fall, every defeat is transformed into redemptive grace. “Whoever loses his life for my sake … will save

it.”

Si Jesús preguntara, ahora, quien es él para cada uno de nosotros. ¿Qué le responderíamos? Quizá, la respuesta sería rápida como la de Pedro. “Tú eres el Mesías”. (Marcos 8:29). Pero, ¿sabemos realmente lo que está respuesta implica? O, tal vez, si les preguntáramos a los niños, ¿nos dirían que es el niñito Jesús?, ¿los jóvenes lo pondrían como un modelo a seguir?, para los mayores ¿la esperanza de una vida mejor? En fin, para muchos sería un mundo donde se viva la paz, la justicia y el amor. Excelentes respuestas, pero, la realidad es otra. En el Evangelio, Jesús se revela a sí mismo como “el Cristo.” Su enseñanza del sufrimiento venidero es una realidad que se avecina, por esa razón, les dice a sus discípulos que; “Sería condenado a muerte y

resucitaría a los tres días”. (Marcos 8:31). Ellos, quedaron

sorprendidos y desconcertados con la explicación, por esa razón, de nuevo, Pedro, toma la iniciativa de hablar y reprender a Jesús. Luego del dialogo entre Jesús y Pedro, Jesús, lanza la invitación al seguimiento. Tomar la cruz de cada día y seguirlo. Esto es válido para los seguidores de entonces y para los de hoy. El reto, es difícil, dado que los cristianos de hoy debemos de aprender a hablar de Jesús. No existe escapatoria. Acuérdate, que de la abundancia del corazón habla la boca. Si dedicamos tiempo para saber quién es Jesús, con seguridad sabremos responderle. ¿Cree usted que es posible anunciar el Evangelio en una sociedad materializada? Ojalá, que no sean sólo palabras y más palabras sobre Jesús, que salen de la boca y no del corazón.

AMBIENTE SEGURO PARA LOS PADRES

Para todos los padres que tienen hijos en catecismo desde los primeros años hasta el grado 12, deben de asistir a al entrenamiento de ambiente seguro para padres hoy 9 de septiembre de 6 a 7:30 pm en la iglesia.

LA CORRESPONSABILIDAD DIARIA

Me encanta ver las repeticiones de los partidos deportivos. A veces veo algo tan extraordinario que les digo a los demás que tienen que verlo para creerlo. Estos momentos verdaderamente puede dejar a uno pasmado. Yo me pregunto cuánta gente en tiempos bíblicos vio a Jesús hacer un milagro y le dijeron los demás que tenían que verlo para creerlo. Por supuesto, nosotros creemos en las historias de sus milagros y nunca las hemos visto en persona. ¿Sí las creemos verdaderamente? No hay un programa de televisión que demuestra repeticiones de los milagros de Jesús. Sin embargo, sí hay milagros de todos los días para que la gente lo vea. Muchos de esos milagros se tratan de las personas que permiten que Dios trabaje dentro de ellos. La gente espera a ser curada o a que le den de comer. Quizás no habrá una repetición para estos milagros tampoco, pero la gente se quedará cautivadas por el poder de Dios. Jesús dijo que uno podía lograr este si tenía fe. Benditos sean los que han creído y que no han visto. Es más, benditos sean los que hacen cosas grandes con Dios para que los demás vean.
