Conclusions

At he time being Spain is clearly the European country with the

highest level of ERTMS implementation. The pioneer role of ADIF have

been one of the keys of the ETCS success.

•Real Interoperability has been demonstrated with the presence in

Spain of all European ERTMS suppliers.

•The recently open line Madrid-Barcelona (621 Km) is the world longest

high speed line equipped with ETCS, and it is also the line where the

highest average speed (241 km/h) is reached.

•CEDEX host in Spain the ERTMS European Reference lab.

•ADIF has promoted the creation of a ETCS experts group which are

among the highest level of Europe.

ETCS L2 implementation and deployment in all the lines

equipped with such a level. Level 2 is currently under test in

Madrid-Barcelona line and it is expected to be in operation mid

2008.

Assurance of ETCS migration to new SRS versions by means of

maintaining the backwards compatibility, wich is vital to assure

the succes of the ERTMS.

3.

ETCS cost reduction by means of assuring real competitiveness

amon all the suppliers. New suppliers will probably enter in the

market very soon.
