■ Program Outline

The Korean Language and Culture Program (KLCP) offers intensive Korean language courses and cultural orientation to Korea. The KLCP offers 4 terms a year, each term running for 10 weeks for all 6 levels. The courses focus on speaking, listening, grammar and writing. The class size is kept small (no more than 15 students) so that each student can receive personal attention and encouragement and also can make the most of cultural activities around Seoul.

Class Size 10 ~ 15 students

Policy Students are required to attend at least 160 hours. Students who miss more than 40 hours per term will fail and not able to advance to the next level.

Levels

6 levels

* All the new students should take a comprehensive placement test to determine their optimal class level. This placement test covers different areas of Korean skill including listening, speaking, reading and writing.

■ Curriculum

Korean language courses meet Monday through Friday for 4 hours and cultural classes and various activities will be offered at least three times per semester.

(Level 1, 3, 5) 9:00 ~ 12:50

Afternoon Class

(Level 2, 4, 6) 13:10 ~ 17:00

■ Eligibility

All applicants must be at least 15 years of age and a high school student or the equivalent. Applicants must meet Korean visa requirements.

■ Tuition and Fees

Tuition for 1 term (10 weeks) is 1,350,000 KRW including 50,000 KRW of non-refundable application fee, all field trips, and social activities fee.

■ Benefits

a. You can study Korean in a serious but fun environment with experienced and professionally-trained teachers.

b. You can practice Korean with your Buddy, a volunteer student of the University of Seoul.

c. You can attend small-sized multinational classes : 10-15 students.

d. You can enjoy cultural classes and also receive a cultural orientation to the Korean .

e. You can use university facilities for free including the library, gymnasium, computers, health center, and the global lounge.

f. You can use comprehensive student services : orientations, field trips, social activities, assistance and advice for visa applications, housing, insurance, and university applications.

■ Required Documents

a. Download an Application form at http://iice.uos.ac.kr b. Application Package :

- A completed application form - 3 passport-size photos

- A student's diploma from the last school attended

- A copy of your passport page showing your name and citizenship - Certificate of bank account (over USD 3,000)

* Since the documents necessary for a visa depend on the applicant's nationality and status, please contact KLCP directly for more information. KLCP may require a notarized sponsorship letter and proof of equivalent of 5,000 USD in a personal bank account.

* Students of short term program don't have to submit a certificate of bank account.

■ Application and Registration

a. Qualified students will be notified of their acceptance into the program within 2 weeks of the registration deadline.

b. Application and tuition fees may be sent by international wire transfer.

■ Refunds

The application fee is non-refundable, but it is possible to receive a full or partial refund for tuition. To receive a refund, students must submit a refund request and a copy of their bankbook.

a. Students withdrawing one month before the semester begins will be refunded 100% of their tuition b. Students withdrawing during the vacation before the semester begins will be refunded 70% of their tuition.

c. If students withdraw after the opening of a course or do not appear at all in class during the first week without any notice will be canceled without any refund.

■ Accommodation

The UOS can help you find accommodation. Accommodation information will be provided upon your request. There are several types of accommodation available :

a. On-Campus Dormitory : A limited number of on-campus dormitory rooms are available on a first-come first-serve basis. If students prefer dormitory housing, they should submit a dormitory application when applying for KLCP. The first priority for dormitory rooms will be given to the students who do not know anyone in Korea or who might have difficulties in living in Korea.

b. Studio ('one-room') : It is usually contains one unit which serves as a bedroom, a kitchen, and a living room.

(Rates : KRW 500,000 ~ 600,000 per month)

c. Go-shi-won : Similar to a Hasook-jib is a place called Go-shi-won. It costs less than Hasook-jib (about KRW 300,000 ~ 450,000 per month), but does not include meals, and the rooms tend to be considerably small.
