HOLY WEEK
The month of April is dedicated both to devotion to the Eucharist and devotion to the Holy Spirit. This tradition has developed because Easter Sunday often falls in April, and when it does fall in March, the Easter season continues on through all of April.
The Church has historically encouraged the month of April of increased devotion to Jesus in the Holy Eucharist.
March 28– Palm Sunday is a celebration of the day the Jesus entered Jerusalem and was greeted by his follow- ers. It occurs on the Sunday before Easter and signifies the beginning of the las week of the Lenten season.
April 1 – Holy Thursday initiates the Easter Triduum, the period which commemorates the passion, death and resur- rection of Jesus; this period includes Good Friday and Holy Saturday, and ends on the evening of Easter. The Mass of the Lord’s Last Supper and washing of the feet are done.
April 2 – Good Friday is the
crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary. It is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday. It is the Day of the 3-hour church service held from noon to 3p.m. commemorating the three hours that Jesus was on the cross.
April 3 – Holy Saturday commemorates the day when Jesus Christ lay in the tomb after his death. It is also known as Easter Eve and is the last day of Lent.
April 4– Easter is also called
Resurrection Sunday, commemorating the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day after his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary.
The resurrection established Jesus as the Son of God. East- er is the fulfilled prophecy of the Messiah who would be persecuted, die for our sins, and rise on the third day.
(Isaiah 53). Remembering the resurrection of Jesus is a way to renew daily hope that we have victory over sin.
According to the New Testament, Easter is three days after the death of Jesus on the Cross.

Es el día del servicio religioso de 3 horas que se celebra desde el mediodía hasta las 3 de la tarde y que conmemora las tres horas que Jesús estuvo en la cruz.
3 de abril - El Sábado Santo conmemora el día en que Jesucristo estuvo en la tumba después de su muerte. Tam- bién se conoce como Nochebuena y es el último día de la Cuaresma.
4 de abril - La Pascua también se llama Domingo de Re- surrección, que conmemora la resurrección de Jesús de entre los muertos, descrita en el Nuevo Testamento como el tercer día después de su entierro tras la crucifixión por los romanos en el Calvario.
La resurrección establece a Jesús como el Hijo de Dios. La Pascua es la profecía cumplida del Mesías que sería perse- guido, moriría por nuestros pecados y resucitaría al tercer día. (Isaías 53). Recordar la resurrección de Jesús es una forma de renovar la esperanza diaria de que tenemos la vic- toria sobre el pecado. The Lord is Risen! Indeed, He is Risen!
God’s plan of salvation is achieved through the life, death and RESUR- RECTION of Jesus, His Son.
When Peter and the other disciple arrived at the empty tomb, they saw and believed, “For they did not yet under- stand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead.”
The reality of Jesus’ resurrection became the lens through which the disciples had to reinterpret all that they had lived of their time with Jesus. His miracles, His teachings, and the time spent with Him, walking, eating and sharing life together, especially those terrible last days.
I remember the day I was told by my pastor, “Perhaps God is calling you to be a priest.” My entire life passed before my eyes with the thought that God had been preparing me all along for this life. Every experience I have ever had has brought me to this very moment!
The moment of our baptism, God adopts us as His children and plants in us the seeds of faith. We are anointed with oil and proclaimed prophet, priest and king. Our life is a jour- ney of faith, one that is formed by our families, friends, and relationships. Our days are numbered on this earth and we are given the opportunity to commune with God our Father and invite Him into our lives.
God has given all of us the same resurrection power of Je- sus to discern our purpose in Him and to live lives of joy and hope. St. Augustine called us a Resurrection People, undeterred by any circumstances of life.
I remember overcoming my doubts about starting a whole new life’s journey to the priesthood at 45 years old! I’m too old. I’m not religious enough. Aren’t priests born as priests? Aren’t priests supposed to be perfect? Aren’t priests supposed to be saints?
I’m grateful to God that my spiritual director helped me to overcome these doubts and trust that if God has called me to the priesthood, then He would open the doors for me. “It is never too late to serve the Lord,” he said to me. I learned to claim our baptismal privilege as a child of God, “all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.”
Easter Sunday is a day of thanksgiving to God for the gift of salvation from sin and from fear of death. All of us who have put our trust in Jesus, share in His life and His triumph over sin and death and live lives of joy and hope.

¡El Señor ha resucitado! En efecto, ¡ha resucitado!
El plan de salvación de Dios se realiza a través de la vida, la muerte y la RESURRECCIÓN de Jesús, su Hijo.
Cuando Pedro y el otro discípulo llegaron a la tumba vacía, vieron y creyeron, "porque aún no entendían la Escritura de que tenía que resucitar de entre los muertos".
La realidad de la resurrección de Jesús se convirtió en la lente a través de la cual los discípulos tuvieron que reinter- pretar todo lo que habían vivido de su tiempo con Jesús.
Sus milagros, sus enseñanzas y el tiempo que pasaron con Él, caminando, comiendo y compartiendo la vida juntos, especialmente aquellos terribles últimos días.
Recuerdo el día en que mi párroco me dijo: "Quizá Dios te llama a ser sacerdote". Toda mi vida pasó ante mis ojos con el pensamiento de que Dios me había estado preparando todo el tiempo para esta vida. Todas las experiencias que he tenido me han llevado a este momento.
En el momento de nuestro bautismo, Dios nos adopta como sus hijos y planta en nosotros las semillas de la fe. Somos ungidos con aceite y proclamados profeta, sacerdote y rey.
Nuestra vida es un viaje de fe, que se forma con nuestras familias, amigos y relaciones. Nuestros días están contados en esta tierra y se nos da la oportunidad de comulgar con Dios, nuestro Padre, e invitarle a entrar en nuestras vidas.
Dios nos ha dado a todos el mismo poder de resurrección de Jesús para discernir nuestro propósito en Él y vivir vidas de alegría y esperanza. San Agustín nos llamó un Pueblo de Resurrección, sin dejarse intimidar por las circunstancias de la vida.
Recuerdo haber superado mis dudas acerca de iniciar un nuevo camino de vida hacia el sacerdocio a los 45 años.
Soy demasiado viejo. No soy lo suficientemente religioso.
¿Acaso los sacerdotes no nacen como tales? ¿No se supone que los sacerdotes son perfectos? ¿No se supone que los sacerdotes son santos?
Le agradezco a Dios que mi director espiritual me haya ayudado a superar estas dudas y a confiar en que si Dios me ha llamado al sacerdocio, entonces Él me abrirá las puertas.
"Nunca es demasiado tarde para servir al Señor", me dijo.
Aprendí a reclamar nuestro privilegio bautismal como hijo de Dios, "todas las cosas obran para el bien de los que aman a Dios, que son llamados según su propósito."
El Domingo de Pascua es un día de agradecimiento a Dios por el don de la salvación del pecado y del miedo a la muerte. Todos los que hemos puesto nuestra confianza en Jesús, compartimos su vida y su triunfo sobre el pecado y la muerte y vivimos vidas de alegría y esperanza.
