Summary on Gossip:
Levels/types of Gossip A. "Bad" curiosity (as opposed to healthy
curiosity) --defined as pursuing knowledge one has no
business knowing.
--This violates Temperance which doesn't on- ly deal with carnal matters, but also matters of the mind/imagination.
B. Murmuring: you say something that is true, but your intention is out of malice. Malice is choosing the lesser of two goods.
C. Detraction: Saying that something is true in order to bring down one’s reputation.
We get a certain pleasure out of it. Somewhat similar to murmuring.
D. Calumny: saying something false about someone to someone else, to completely bring someone down. This is very related to Sa- tan's special vice, envy which rejoices in others' misery and failure.
Can I say something negative about someone
(almost always only to him/her)?
3 conditions need to be met:
a. It must be just b. You are doing for the Love of God
(we are all sinners and we are only redeemed by
the blood of Christ) c. It is necessary. The person needs to
