All are invited to a special reception for Paul and Gail Curtin

Paul and Gail will be moving in January to Lisle, Illinois, to an independent living apartment at the Villa St. Benedict, a retirement community run by the Benedictine Sisters of the Sacred Heart and Bene- dictine Health System. They will be greatly missed! Although they have been called by the Holy Spirit to make this move after 31 years here, we really cannot imagine Santa Cruz without them! We know God’s plan is always GOOD…so we put our trust in Him. Please join us for this celebration as we recognize them with an award….and wish them well on an exciting journey into the next chapter of their lives.

SACRED HEART MEN’S CLUB 

The Sacred Heart Men’s Club wishes to share a little History of our beauti- ful Nativity you see every year placed in front of our Santa Cruz Church.

The Lumber used to construct this beautiful Nativity came from the Old Santa Cruz Church which, at one time, was located along Interstate 35 just a few miles from here. It was founded in 1941 by Father Alfredo F. Mendez and was built to serve the Mexican American community of this area. This old Santa Cruz Church was dedicated on December 14, 1941 with only thirty-five families in attendance. Look at us now!! This Old Santa Cruz Church was re-constructed, re-located and moved rock by rock, stone by stone by the Sacred Heart Men’s Club member, Mr.

James Quezada and is now our beautiful San Juan Chapel you see next to our Santa Cruz Catholic School. This beautiful Chapel that we admire and come to pray in.

The old lumber from the old church was used by the Sacred Heart Men’s Club to build our Nativity. Santa Cruz Catholic Church is the one in the area to say that we are the only ones to have a true Historical Nativity scene. This Nativity was donated and dedicated to Santa Cruz Catholic Church by Mr. James Quezada and the Sacred Heart Men’s Club.

We now  come and worship in this big and beautiful Santa Cruz Church every Sunday. This Church was dedicated February 11, 2001.

Msgr. Joseph Deane oversaw the construction of this 1,000 seat church.

The Church Hall was later dedicated in honor of Father Joseph Deane and is now called the Deane Hall. And, in August 2007 our Santa Cruz Catholic School opened and our Santa Cruz Catholic Church community continues to grow by the numbers with Pastor Kirby Garner currently over-seeing the Santa Cruz Church along with Father Christian.

Have a very Merry Christmas!!
