It wreaks of inclusion and belonging – it contains a deep sense of being at home. In the language of
Mystagogia (RCIA) it fits so well since it is a very clear depiction of going deeper into the mysteries andintegrating the spiritual truths deeply into our lives. It is expressed so simply and beautifully in today’s gospel: “Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit”; and, “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you”. ‘Staying connected’ by cell phone or Facebook is for some people the height of inter-connectivity. Some can’t live without it. Some appear to be addicted to their cell phones and to remaining in touch with friends and the world out there. But this gospel goes much deeper. “Remain in me” and allow me to “remain in you” – and fruitfulness, fulfillment, finding completion will result in your lives. Jesus is clear about many things throughout his preaching/teaching career. He says the world of faith and spirit is about more than ‘doing things’ or ‘following commandments’.
He doesn’t negate these practices as if they are useless. He does indicate that one can follow these perfectly and not find the Kingdom of God. His sense is that “remaining in” is more the goal. Experiencing God dwelling within -- his Word having a space within – Jesus’ presence becoming a part of: these are the things or spiritual realities that make the Kingdom of God come alive in us. This is a language that must become reality for us that is: experienced, shared, described, celebrated, lived!

RCIA (RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS)
“Mystagogia” ~ “going deeper into the mysteries”~ is a process of reflection. The Christian life is a mystagogia process.
In light of the Scriptures today, mystagogia can be seen as the process of integrating the gospel into our lives. Love is a gospel call not meant to be merely talked about, but to be lived.
The deeper it enters into our hearts/souls – the more truly it will be lived and experienced by us and through us. Last Sunday and today, May 6th, our St. Bernard School children made their 1st Commnion – as will our children in the Religious Education Program next Saturday. This is mystagogia: learning about Jesus and his Word and teaching – then putting it into practice. To know him, then to receive him, then to allow him to live within us and in our actions is integrating Jesus Christ into our lives. We celebrate this great step in the lives of the children of our parish this weekend. Alleluia!

MOTHER’S DAY NOVENA OF MASSES
You still have time to turn in the names of those mothers, living or deceased for the Novena of Masses. The Novena started May 5th (yesterday) and will conclude on next Sunday, Mother’s Day. The cards and envelopes are available in the church. The envelopes with the names can be placed in the regular collection or left at the church office.On Saturday, May 19 the Knights of Columbus will be hosting a Yard Sale from 8am—2pm. The Spanish Prayer Group invites you to celebrate Mother's Day this Friday, May 11 at 6:00pm, followed by the celebration in the Parish Hall. Free dinner for all mothers! Adults and children under 12 years old, $5 (children 8 to 12 years old, $3).
NEWS FROM THE RELIGIOUS EDUCATION OFFICE
St. Bernard Parish will host a Fingerprinting Session at the Parish Center on June 20, 2012 from 12 noon to 7:15pm. All Church employees/volunteers/school & ORE parents who attended the Virtus Training in 2011 but have not been fingerprinted need to register ASAP at the Church Office before the slots get filled up.Those who will attend the Virtus Training for the coming school year need to be fingerprinted as well.

The Office of Religious Education will start accepting registration for Sacramental preparation and Catechism classes starting May 21st. For First Communion preparation please bring your child’s Baptismal Certificate and one passport size picture. For Confirmation preparation, you need to bring the child’s Baptismal and 1st Communion Certificates and a passport size picture.

Se da rienda suelta al sentido de inclusión y pertenencia - contiene un profundo sentido de estar en casa. En el lenguaje de Mystagogia (RICA) se ajusta bien, ya que es una representación clara de profundizar en los misterios y la integración de las verdades espirituales profundamente en nuestras vidas. "Permanezcan en mí" y permítanme "permanecer en ustedes" - tendrán como resultado la fecundidad, el cumplimiento, la búsqueda del complemento en sus vidas. Jesús es muy claro acerca de muchas cosas a través de sus enseñanzas. Jesús dice que el mundo de la fe y el espíritu va mucho más que "hacer las cosas ' o ‘cumplir los mandamientos’. Él no niega estas prácticas, como si no sirvieran. Nos indica que los podemos seguir perfectamente y no encontrar el Reino de Dios. El objetivo en cambio es el sentido de "permanecer". Experimentar la morada de Dios dentro de nosotros mismos - encontrar un lugar dentro de nosotros mismos para su Palabra—la presencia de Jesús convirtiéndose en propio de: estas son las cosas o realidades espirituales que hacen que el Reino de Dios cobre vida en nosotros. Este es un lenguaje que debe convertirse en una realidad para nosotros que es: con experiencia, compartido, que se describe, celebrado, vivido!

On the Friday before Mother’s Day, Get on the Bus will bring more than 1000 children from throughout the state to visit their mothers at prison. Due to distance and poverty, this is the only day each year that most of these children will get to see their mother. RICA (RITO DE INICIACIÓN CRISTIANA DE ADULTOS)
"Mystagogia" ~ "profundizando en los misterios" ~ es un proceso de reflexión. La vida cristiana es un proceso de mistagogia. A la luz de las Escrituras hoy, mistagogia puede ser vista como el proceso de integración del Evangelio en nuestras vidas. El amor es un llamado del evangelio no pretende ser solamente para hablar de el sino pero para hacerlo vida. Entre más profundo entra en nuestros corazones o en nuestras almas-lmayormente será vivido y experimentado por nosotros y por nosotros. El Domingo pasado y hoy, 6 de Mayo, nuestros niños de la Escuela San Bernardo hicieron su Primera Comunión - igual lo harán nuestros niños del Programa de Educación Religiosa el próximo Sábado. Se trata de mistagogia:
aprender acerca de Jesús, su Palabra y enseñanzas - y entonces ponerlo en práctica. Conocerlo, luego recibirlo, y permitirle que viva dentro de nosotros y en nuestras acciones es integrar a Jesús en nuestras vidas. Celebremos este gran paso en la vida de los niños de nuestra parroquia este fin de semana. ¡Aleluya!

La Parroquia de San Bernardo será el anfitrión de una sesión de Huellas Digitales en el Centro Parroquial el 20 de junio del 2012 desde las 12 del mediodía a las 7:15pm. Todos los empleados de la Iglesia/voluntarios /padres de familia de la escuela y de la Oficina de Educación Religiosa que asistieron al entrenamiento Virtus en el 2011, y que no se han tomado las huellas dactilares es necesario que se registren lo antes posible a la oficina de la iglesia. Los que van a asistir al entrenamiento Virtus para el próximo año escolar deberán tomarse las huellas digitales también.

A partir del 21 de Mayo la Oficina de Educación Religiosa estará aceptando registraciones para la preparación Sacramental Catecismo. Para las Primeras Comuniones, necesitan traer la Fe de Bautismo de su hijo/a y una foto tamaño pasaporte. Did You Know? How many people suffer elder abuse?
It is difficult to say how many older Americans are abused, neglected, or exploited, in large part because surveillance is limited and the problem remains greatly hidden. But recent studies suggest that more than 500,000 Americans aged 60 and over are victims of domestic abuse. Studies have also found that only 16 percent of the abusive situations are referred for help -- 84 percent remain hidden. The U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging estimates that there may be as many as 5 million victims every year.
