PRINCIPAL’S NEWS
Dear Parents,
As you are aware, the safety and security of our Rosa Parks students, families, staff and school is of utmost importance. As a result of our common belief that safety is an essential priority, the school and community have worked together over the past several years to develop and continually improve a school safety plan. This plan is used every day at Rosa Parks.
As you are probably also aware, there has been a significant amount of media coverage over the past few weeks about potential terrorist threats. This has lead to increased anxiety about the safety and security of all of our schools.
It is very important to know that according to law enforcement agencies both locally and
nationally, that there is NO specific threat to our schools and students here in San Diego or at Rosa Parks. Although, according to the FBI, a publicly available U.S. Department of Education report on crisis planning for SD City Schools was found in the possession of a man arrested by U.S.
authorities in Iraq, the report does NOT include the District’s or individual school plans. Our school district, San Diego City Schools Police, and the staff at all schools continue to work closely with local law enforcement agencies to ensure that our schools are safe.
While there has been no specific threat our district is calling on all staff, parents, students and community members to assist in keeping our schools safe. To this end, our Rosa Parks staff, parent groups, and Site Governance Team are currently reviewing our school safety procedures to
determine possible ways to increase safety and security for everyone. Any changes to improve our current safety plans and procedures will be discussed at the upcoming Parent Meeting on
November 19th and will be sent home to all parents via newsletter.
Please feel free to contact either myself or other staff if you have questions, concerns or questions about this important issue.
Sincerely, Barbara Bethel
