In the Manual for the Society we read: On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the canonization of St. Vin-cent de Paul, Pope John Paul II quoted the famous histo-rian of Christian spirituality, Henri Bremond, about Vin-cent de Paul: “It was not love for men that led him to sanctity; rather it was sanctity that made him truly and effectively charitable; it was not the poor that gave him to God, but, on the contrary, God gave himto the poor.” God acts in the same way in the lives of all Vincentians. Holiness makes them truly and effectively charitable. It is God who gives them to the poor. (US Manual of the SVDP, p.53)

There have been more than 54 million abortions performed in the

United States since Roe v. Wade was decided back in 1973. To help

stop the anti-life push around the world, we ask you to spiritually

adopt a baby in danger of abortion and say a daily prayer for a period of

nine months. Your prayers CAN make a difference between whether a

baby will be born ... or aborted. Our prayers can also be a form of

spiritual support for both parents.

St. William began its 15th season of spiritual adoptions the weekend of

March 2nd. Please share the love of life given to you by the Lord of all

life and spiritually adopt a baby.

We will have cards and pencils in the pews. Please complete the

smaller right side with the your name and the name of your spiritually

adopted child. Write the name of your spiritually adopted child on the

card on the left side that contains the prayer. Separate the two sides

and drop the side with your name and the child’s name into one of the

baskets held by Pro-Life Committee members who will be in the

vesti-bule.

Remember to turn in filled baby bottles to the

martyrdom so the readings

recalled Joseph thrown

down the well by his

broth-ers, and the wicked servants

killing the son of the owner

of the vineyard. Gradually,

travelers to Rome noted the

celebration and worked it

into liturgical schedules

back home. Eventually,

cal-endars everywhere bore the

curious footnote on a Lenten

Saturday: “Station S.

pri-ority of getting ready to hear

the Passion fairly well, but

was hardly satisfactory for

Lent’s baptismal character.

Now, at last, our liturgy is

exceedingly well. Lent, once

again, is all about baptism.

RAISED UP BY THE MESSIAH

Last week, when Jesus referred to the destruction of the

tem-ple, the account from today’s first reading is what would have

come to the minds of his listeners. But, as Jesus was speaking on a

deeper level, so does today’s first reading. In the first paragraph we

hear that Israel had, in effect, “fallen” already through its infidelity

to the covenant. Lest we get too cozy, this account reminds us that

God, though just, loving, and merciful, is capable of punishing sin

when that sin is unrepentant. But we are also reminded that God,

rich in mercy, anoints individuals to be vessels of salvation as well

(in Hebrew, King Cyrus of Persia is called “messiah”). In the

Gos-pel reading, we hear of another Messiah being “lifted up” for our

salvation in one of the best‐known passages from the New

Testa-ment. As Lent concludes and we enter Holy Week, we need to

keep our gaze steadfast upon the cross of Christ, the Son of God

who came into the world to raise us who had fallen.

With the dissipation of the

since almost everyone was

began to be seen more as a

creative spirits settled on

“stational churches” as a

way of keeping the energy

flowing. Everyone would be

directed to a certain

“station” each day, and the

name of that church

certain Saturdays in Lent,

everything centered on the

church of St. Vitale. Now,

o 1 Samuel 16:1b, 6-7, 10-13a.

Salmo — Que se me pegue la lengua al paladar si no me

acuerdo de ti (Salmo 137 [136])

o Salmo 23(22)

.

Segunda lectura — Dios, rico en misericordia y amor,

nos dio vida con Cristo. (Efesios 2:4-10)

o Efesios 5:8-14.

o Juan 9:1-41 [1, 6-9, 13-17, 34-38].
