Registration in any of the studies regulated in this call, official or USC-specific, implies the acceptance of any teaching, academic or administrative measures established according to the sanitary situation.
Regulation and effects of the pursued studies as well as the fees to be paid are determined by the type of registration chosen by the student.

1.7 RECOGNITION OF PREVIOUS STUDIES FOR EXCHANGE STUDENTS AND VISITING STUDENTS
Classes taken at this University under university exchange and student´s mobility programmes appearing in the studies commitment, as well as the ones pursued by visiting students will be fully recognised if the student afterwards accesses the referred studies, after overcoming the admission processes established by the current legislation. Requests of adaptation from expired curricula will be admitted within the period of the second semester as established by Appendix I, provided that the student may register in the semester in cuestion according to the regulations of the continuation of studies.
Students will have the right to modify their registrations of subjects of the second semester within the periods established by each decision concerning the requests of recognition and validation presented within the period established by Appendix I for the second semester.
Requests submitted out of the ordinary registration period
Applications for recognition submitted after the deadlines laid down in Appendix I shall be admissible only if they correspond to the application of the automatic recognition tables.
REGISTRATION CALL ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/22
Requests submitted out of the ordinary registration period
Students with an excess of credits for registered elective subjects to complete their degree or to defend their dissertation during the current academic year, as a result of the recognition of credits for courses, activities or transversal skills, may cancel no more than one elective subject, provided that they request this modification prior to the beginning of the assessments of the semester in which the elective subject is taken and provided that the subject gives an equal or inferior amount of credits as the excess of credits for elective subjects.
9.5 MODIFICATION FOR INTERNSHIPS IN COMPANIES OR OTHER INSTITUTIONS
Students who were admitted to carry out internships in companies or other institutions called by the university will be able to modify their registration within five days from the moment the student was selected. They can only cancel an equal or inferior number of credits of the same type, and only if the exams of the subject or subjects to be canceled have not already taken place.
Students registered at the beginning of the academic year for elective internships but who were not selected, may modify their registration in the second semester in a number of credits equivalent to the subject of the internship.
Except for the case established in the preceeding paragraph, the registration for the Practicum or the internships may only be cancelled during the period of registration modification of the first semester, provided that they have not been assigned already.
9.6 REGISTRATION AND REGISTRATION MODIFICATIONS IN THE SECOND SEMESTER 9.6.1 Start of master´s degree studies
Exceptionally, if asked by the Master´s Degree coordinator within the period established in Appendix I, registration of a new student can be authorised if in the first registration period all vacancies were not covered. Vacancies within this period will be assigned by request order.
Registration will only comprise subjects of the second semester.
Students who start their studies within this period must register for all the subjects of the second semester, except if the student has previously requested a reduction on their registration that will not be under any circumstances less than 50% of the subjects of the second semester.
To this end, coordinators must communicate their intention to call vacancies to the General Secretariat through the Academic Management Service before the date in Appendix I.
9.6.2 Continuation of studies
Provided that the requirements established in the continuity regulation are met, students of this university who did not register within the ordinary registration period may register to continue their studies already started in second semester subjects.
9.6.3 Extension and modification of the registration in the second semester for degrees and master´s degrees
During this period modifications of registrations will only be permitted if the resulting number of credits is not inferior to the number initially registered.
REGISTRATION CALL ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/22
Registration can be modified by adding or substituting subjects according to the following:
- Extension of subjects.- Registration can only be extended for second semester subjects, independently of its type.
- Substitution of subjects.- Only subjects of the second semester in which the student is registered may be substituted for other subjects of any type from the second semester.
Registration modifications in master´s degree studies within the second period must be previously authorised by the programme coordinator, applying the limitations, restrictions and requirements established in the regulation for postgraduate studies, in the master´s degree offer and in this call. There are two ways for this modification:
- After a previous request by the interested party, the coordinator may inform directly the UXA (Academic Management Unit) of the subjects of the second semester to be modified in their registration.
- The student may also request it directly at the UXA (Academic Management Unit), presenting the coordinator’s favourable report.
9.7 PARTIAL WITHDRAWAL OR REGISTRATION MODIFICATION FOR EXCEPTIONAL REASONS
Modification or partial withdrawal of the registration can be requested due to personal (e.g.
serious illness) or academic reasons, that must be documentally proven. The modification will be approved or rejected by rectoral resolution after having studied the allegations.
10 SIMULTANEOUS STUDIES
Regulations of this call about simultaneous studies will be understood without prejudice to the stipulations of the Agreement of the Governing Council of 27 March 2015 regarding double degrees, and the programmes for high-capacity persons that will operate under their specific regulations.
Similarly, the regulations in this call referring to simultaneous studies will not be applicable to USC- specific degrees, continuous training studies, specialisation studies, language courses and other training activities nor for simultaneous non-universitary level studies.
10.1 IMPEDIMENTS:
Simultaneous studies will not be authorised:
- Simultaneous studies of more than two degrees from the University of Santiago or other universities.
- Simultaneous studies of a PhD programme and any other studies will be regulated by the Regulations for Doctoral Studies.
- Studying at another university to obtain the same diploma or studies that require the same professional or academic skills. In case of simultaneously studying the same studies at two universities they will not be recognised at the USC.
- Beginning two degrees or master´s degree studies simultaneously.
- When part-time registration is requested for simultaneous studies.
REGISTRATION CALL ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/22
10.2 REQUIREMENTS
Following the regulations of the Rector’s Decision of 3 September 2013 on simultaneous studies, degree and master´s degree students will be able to combine studies of two degrees taught at this University if they meet the following requirements:
- Pass the full first year of one of the degrees in order to simultaneously study a degree.
- That there are vacencies at the end of the admission process. As a consequence, the student can not request a vacancy in the second degree or master´s degree studies until the admission process has finished. If the vacancy is requested during the admission process of the second degree and the student is admitted they should choose between registering in this degree or continuing with the studies already started.
When the admission process finishes, there will be a period for the students who meet the requirements, so they can register in the second degree with vacancies within the registration limits established in this call.
As an exception, students who still need to obtain a maximum of 15 ECTS credits and complete the End of Degree or End of Master´s Degree Final Dissertation to finish their studies can combine these studies with others if they are admitted to begin them.
Students who have already started their studies in previous years can combine both studies if they passed the first year of one of the degrees and the registration in the maximum of credits established. This regulation will also be applicable to the students who studied under an extinguished plan and, without having finished, now have to change to a degree. In this case, they can combine their studies with others already started and not finished in previous years.
Full time registration under combined studies can not exceed a total of 75 ECTS credits during the first year and 90 ECTS in the following years, without taking into account the credits for extracurricular internships and the End of Degree or End of Master´s Degree Final Dissertation.
10.3 RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS
Students who receive permission for simultaneous studies:
- Will have the same obligations concerning attendance to class, internships and other academic activities as stipulated by the teaching guide.
- They have no right to change of assessment dates for this reason.
- They do not have any special consideration in the procedures for changing a teaching group, where the regulations of each centre will be applied.
10.4 SIMULTANEOUS STUDIES WITH OTHER UNIVERSITIES
Simultaneous studies between the USC and other universities will not be authorized in case of in- person teaching, except where provided for students who only need to complete no more than 15 ECTS and the End of Degree or End of Master´s Degree Final Dissertation in order to finish their studies.
Simultaneous studies between degrees and other distance studies (online or blended) fall under the same requirements and apply the same registration limits as for the simultaneous studies at the USC.
REGISTRATION CALL ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/22
If another university grants the student simultaneous studies without meeting the requirements established in this call, the student will have to choose between one of the two studies. If they fail to do so, the registration at the USC will be cancelled.
11 CURRICULAR ROUTE ADAPTATIONS
Students starting any of the studies regulated in this call can request, during the ordinary registration period, the curricular itinerary adaptation that must be followed to obtain the degree through a decision of recognition of high skills or special educational needs.
The resolution of the curricular adaptation petition, once recognised by the corresponding unit or service, may include the modification or exemption of the registration limits and the count of calls, determine the curricular route to follow in each year and determine other registration requirements different from the general ones.
In accordance with the provisions of General Secretariat Instruction No. 1/2017 on exemption from class attendance under certain circumstances, students with special educational needs may choose to request planning and monitoring of their academic activity that is adapted to their needs or apply for exemption from class and determine the adaptation of the assessment system.
The Centre Board or its delegating body shall approve the planning it deems appropriate and shall communicate it to all the Departments concerned.
12 CHANGE OF THE CENTRE OF STUDIES
Students beginning their degree studies at the Santiago de Compostela and Lugo University Campuses can request the continuation of the same studies at another university campus from the beginning of the academic year following the one in which they began their studies. This request can be submitted within the ordinary registration period of the first semester and also within the period established in Appendix I for the second semester, in this latter case only if a favourable report by the corresponding centre is submitted.
Students registered in master´s degrees taught at both Campuses who want to change can request it within the same period of time, starting from the academic year following the one in which they began their studies. In this case, the positive report of the master´s degree coordinator will be required.
13 ASSESSMENT CALL. RESIGNATION
Students have one call for each academic year, with two assessment opportunities, one at the end of each semester and the other in the month of July, according to the adopted academic calendar.
This right to assessment will be limited by the academic incompatibilities specified by the curriculum or the academic plannings in accordance with the applicable regulations.
Students cannot be assessed if they are not effectively registered in the corresponding subject or activity (internships, stays, etc.)
13.1 DEGREE AND MASTER´S DEGREE CALLS
Independently of the opportunities planned for each call, students can attend to a máximum of 4 calls for each subject for degree and master´s degree conducive to the exercising of regulated careers and 2 for the other master´s degrees, according to the continuity regulation.
REGISTRATION CALL ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/22
Registration in company or institution internships, stays or comparable activities only gives right to be assessed once per academic year. The assessment opportunity will be the first or the second one, depending on the date of the end of the activity.
Registration in the Degree and Master´s Degree Final Dissertation gives right to the calls determined by the Agreement of the Governing Council of 10-03-2016 approving the Regulations for the registration, preparation and defence of the End of Degree and Master's Dissertations at the University of Santiago de Compostela.
Calls are used even if the student does not attend to any of the established assessment procedures, so 'not taken' in the first opportunity allows the student to attend to the second examination opportunity if allowed by the teaching guide. If they do not attend to the second call, the calls will be consumed.
The mark of a call if the student does not attend to the examination sitting or does not pass is 'failed', except if the student is not carrying out any academic activity, in this case they will appear as 'not taken’.
In case the student requests the adaptation because of a change of curriculum or a new edition of the degree or master’s degree, the calls consumed in previous curricula or editions will not be counted in the new academic record with regards to the regulation of continuity.
13.1.1 Degree and master´s degree students in exchange programmes
Students linked to an inter-university programme will have the assessment opportunities established at the host university. Independently, they can attend to the July call at the USC provided that:
- The subject or subjects are contained in the study commitment or the academic agreement and belong to the first semester at the USC and/or the host university.
- The subject or subjects have not already been passed at the host university. This condition must be confirmed at the moment of registration.
- The subjects that haven’t been passed yet have en equivalent in their degree.
- The teaching guide allows it.
The request may be presented before the coordinator by any means suitable to confirm its reception, at least 30 days before the beginning of the examination phase of July.
The coordinator must inform the professors responsible for the subjects and transmit to the corresponding UXA (Academic Management Unit) the list of students who elect this option, so the UXA removes the condition of exchange student in their record and they can receive their marks.
13.1.2 Rules for the Continuation of Studies
According to the Social Council Agreement of 3 November 2014 if students consume all their calls they may request exemption of that limit once per subject due to extraordinary academic or personal reasons.
According to the Governing Council Agreement of 10 March 2016 in case of having consumed all the calls, and if the maximum outstanding credits are 18, without taking into account the Degree or Master´s Degree Final Dissertation, students can only request one extraordinary call.
REGISTRATION CALL ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/22
13.2 RENUNCIATION OF CALLS
The renunciation implies the impossibility of all further activities for the subject. The academic record will reflect the “renouncement”.
The renunciation entails the student’s elimination from the register of the subject as well as the renunciation of all assessment opportunities for the academic year.
Once the renunciation is accepted it is not possible to withdraw the request.
Renouncing the second opportunity of examination will not be possible under any circumstances.
Renouncing the subjects of practicum or internships will not be possible.
Renouncing a call will not have any effects once the subject has been completely assessed. In case of detecting this circumstance, the resignation will be removed from the record and the corresponding mark will be given to the student.
The renunciation will not give right to a refund of fees. Moreover, the amount paid for registering the renounced subject will be taken into account when applying possible surcharges for the second or subsequent registrations in the following academic years.
13.2.1 Voluntary Renunciation
The voluntary renouncement of a call will be permitted only once per subject.
Students may renounce an assessment call without any justification by following the telematic process in the Virtual Secretariat. Once the request is made, this circumstance will be noted in the student´s academic record.
Voluntary renuncement is not authorised for subjects:
- Of exchange programmes reflected in the contracts or study commitments.
- Under the extraordinary tuition support.
Renouncement must be requested within the period indicated in Appendix I according to the dates established in the academic programme for the teaching of subjects, without the possibility of renouncing only the second opportunity.
13.2.2 Renunciation due to force majeure
Requests due to cases of force majeure must be justified. Otherwise, the request will be rejected.
During the procedure any report considered useful may be requested.
The resolution which ends the procedure will admit or reject the request in a reasoned manner.
If the renouncement is admitted for this reason, the academic record will be modified and it will be reflected in the assessment as ‘renouncement’ with the authorisation date.
In case that the student was asessed previously to the renunciation, the assessments will be kept in the assessment record, but they will not have effects or appear in the academic record.
13.2.3 Renunciation for not meeting the requirements for the defence of the Degree or Master’s Degree Final Dissertation.
Once the registration is formalised, it is not possible to refund the fees if the student does not attend. If the student does not meet the requirements to present the dissertation for having outstanding subjects, it will be considered an automatic renunciation and thus will not be taken into account for the purpose of using a call.
Receiving the mark of 'not taken' in any of the opportunities or in all of them will be taken into
REGISTRATION CALL ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/22
account for the number of available calls.
14 END-OF-STUDIES CALL FOR DEGREE AND MASTER´S DEGREE
With the aim of finishing their studies earlier, degree and master´s degree students can request online through the Virtual Secretariat the inscription for the end-of-studies call within the period set in Appendix I for the registration modifications of the first period. The request can be done independently of the number of subjects that the student has registered in the first semester, in case that they just need to pass one yearly subject or of the second semester, in addition to the Degree or Master´s Degree Final Dissertation and/or compulsory curriculum external internships.
Practical subjects, practicum of the studies, Degree/Master´s Degree Final Dissertations and the subjects equivalent to them will be excluded from this call.
Records will be signed by the professor in charge of the subject.
Subjects passed in this call will be allocated to the academic year 2021/22 with the reference ‘End of Studies’ and the mark obtained.
Students who do not pass the End-of-Studies call can not take the first opportunity of the ordinary call. They can only take the re-examination in the same course, except if they did not attend. In this case they will be able to take the two opportunities of the ordinary call.
Registration in the End-of-Studies call will not imply new fees or charges for registration.
15 MENTIONS AND SPECIALITIES IN DEGREE AND MASTER´S DEGREE
To obtain a mention or speciality, students must pass all compulsory and elective subjects linked to the mention/speciality. If the curriculum stipulates a practicum or external internship as well as Degree or Master’s Degree Final Dissertations linked to the mentions/specialties, then these subjects must also be taken.
The Rector's resolution of 11 July 2016 on the awarding of several mentions and specialities in degrees and master's degrees establishes the following:
− Students registered in studies that offer mentions/specialities can only register in one of them in the same academic year, except if degree’s description (memoria) establishes this possiblity or the responsible centre accepts it.
− Students who have finished their studies and can obtain their diploma can request their registration in additional mentions/specialities from the same studies. Centres can establish quotas to pursue certain mentions.
− When the same degree or master´s degree curriculum is taught in several campuses, and different mentions/specialities are offered depending on the campus, students can also request undertaking the new mentions/specialities in a different campus.
− Students registered in complementary courses can not pursue mentions. Once they finish their studies they can pursue a mention if they did not take it in the previous studies that gave them access.
− Students from other universities wil not be admitted only to pursue a mention or speciality, except inter-university or shared studies.
REGISTRATION CALL ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/22
Students can submit a registration request in a new mention/speciality within the ordinary registration period. These requests will be solved after the report of the centre or the corresponding academic comission.
16 LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS OF GALICIAN OR SPANISH FOR REGISTRATION IN OFFICIAL STUDIES
The Agreement of the Governing Council of 28 February 2019 on the requirement of a level of knowledge of Galician or Spanish for the registration in the oficial studies of degree, master’s degree and doctorate establishes that in order to register in official degrees at the USC, students must prove their knowledge of the Spanish language by means of B1 certificate issued by the Instituto Cervantes, except for the Degree in Spanish Language and Literature where confirmation of B2 or superior is required.
Knowledge of the Galician language will be confirmed by means of a Celga II certificate, in accordance with the Order of the Department of Presidency, Public Administrations and Justice of the Galician Regional Government of 16 July 2007, modified by the Order of 10 February 2014.
If the student is not in possession of any such certificate, the USC will offer a test of language skills in Spanish or Galician before the studies begin and will notify the student of its place and date.
If the student doesn’t pass the test they must modify their registration. They may not register for more than 25% of the credits of the first semester and will have to take a mandatory intensive course of Spanish or Galician until they pass the required level, which will also be required for registration in the second semester.
Failure to pass the course will result in the complete cancellation of the registration. In this case the university may offer the student the possibility to register as a visiting student in a number of subjects of the second semester.
This requirement will not be applied to students from countries with Spanish or Portuguese as official languages as well as students registered in studies which are mainly taught in other languages.
16.1 MASTER’S DEGREE
The Commission of each master’s degree must indicate whether or not a B1 level in Spanish or a Celga II in Galician will be required. In case of the master’s degrees corresponding to the Faculty of Philology a level of B2 may be required. In the absence of indications no specific language level will be required.
In case a level of B1 or B2 is required, the regulations of the previous section are to be followed.
16.2 DOCTORATE
There will be no minimum language requirements for Galician or Spanish. It will be the student’s responsibility to know the language(s) needed to follow the curriculum.
17 PUBLICATION OF MINIMUM MARKS
Once the process of admission and registration is completed, the Academic Management Service
REGISTRATION CALL ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/22
will publish, for information purposes, the minimum marks for the admission for master’s degrees, complementary courses and quotas of transfer where there were no remaining vacancies.
II. DEGREE STUDIES
18 BEGINNING OF DEGREE STUDIES
In order to begin degree studies, students must pre-register according to the periods and procedures established by the Galician Inter-University Commission (CIUG).
Once authorized, students who passed the suitability tests for access to the university or are in possession of one of the certificates mentioned in Appendix III may register.
Where validation of any degree, diploma or studies from educational systems of foreign countries is required for access to the university, those students who certify having presented the corresponding application for the validation will be accepted conditionally as soon as the validation procedure is resolved, with the exception of those students who wish to gain access based on a foreign academic degree; in this case a validation or declaration of equality of the degree or academic level will be required. Otherwise, they must apply for admission according to article 30 of RD 412/2014.
Students with an academic degree of ‘diplomado’, teacher, technical engineer, technical architect or in possession of equivalent academic titles of extinct curricula may register in the studies of degree. However, regarding degrees for which a complementary course (bridge course) is offered in order for the graduates of extinct studies to obtain the abilities provided by the official degree, they will only be able to request their admission in this way and not through the common system for the beginning of studies in degrees with limited admission (pre-registration) which replace the degree already studied. The same limitations apply to students who fulfill the requirements to request the issuing of their diploma but have not yet done so. In case of a breach of this limitation the registration for the first academic year will be canceled and, if possible, the next student on the waiting list will be called.
19 DOUBLE DEGREE PROGRAMMES
In general, and for the purpose of the application of the stipulations in this call, and except for specific provisions, it will be understood that the double-degree studies are single studies.
The processing and management of the admission requests for the start of studies in a double degree programme (integral programmes of double studies) will be managed by the CIUG applying the same criteria and procedures as for the admission in other studies.
USC students who have passed 30 credits of basic training in one of the studies that are part of a double degree programme can request to continue their studies in the corresponding double degree programme. In addition, to be admitted in the double degree it is a necessary requirement to have a higher mark for access to university than the last student to enter the doble degree in the previous academic year.
REGISTRATION CALL ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/22
The number of vacancies offered in this form of continuation in double degrees may be 2 (1 for each of the degrees it is comprised of) or 4 (2 for each of the degrees it is comprised of). Vacancies will be assigned according to section 24.2.1 of this call. If selection should become necessary, the criterion will be the mark obtained in the university access test.
The initial registration for the academic year 2021/2022 will be offered for this kind of studies with a maximum of 75 ECTS for the first year and 90 ECTS in the following years.
