Quinceañera Celebrations: The family must be registered in the parish for a period of three (3) months prior to the date of the first preparation session. The candidate should register for her/his Quince Años ceremony on or before her/his 14th birthday . The candidate must have been baptized in the Roman Catholic Church and must have received First Eucharist prior to the time of the ceremony. If the honoree has not received the Sacrament of Communion, she/he should be enrolled to prepare to receive the sacrament before the Quince Años ceremony. The candidate must attend and complete preparation sessions with the coordinator and must join our parish youth program. Pick up

Queridos amigos de St. Dominic,
El Evangelio de hoy viene de nuevo del Evangelio de Juan. Como la semana pasada, hoy escuchamos palabras pronunciadas por Jesús antes de su muerte y resurrección. Jesús está enseñando en la Última Cena.
El evangelio de Juan no incluye una institución de la narrativa de la Eucaristía; en cambio, Jesús lava los pies de sus discípulos. Inmediatamente después, Jesús predice su traición por Judas. El evangelio de hoy sigue esa predicción. Puede leerse como una continuación explicación del acto de Jesús de lavar los pies a sus discípulos. Comienza con el anuncio de que esto es el momento en que el Hijo del Hombre será glorificado. Este tema continúa a lo largo de la Pasión de Juan. Jesús será glorificado en su muerte en la cruz y en su Resurrección, y los discípulos glorificarán a Jesús en el amor que muestran.

Today's Gospel again comes from the Gospel of John. Like last week, today we hear words spoken by Jesus before his death and Resurrection. Jesus is teaching at the Last Supper.
John's Gospel does not include an institution of the Eucharist narrative; instead, Jesus washes his disciples' feet. Immediately after, Jesus predicts his betrayal by Judas. Today's Gospel follows that prediction. It can be read as a continuing explanation of Jesus' act of washing his disciples' feet. It begins with the announcement that this is the moment when the Son of Man will be glorified.
This theme continues throughout John's Passion.
Jesus will be glorified in his death on the cross and in his Resurrection, and the disciples will glorify Jesus in the love they show.
John's Gospel does not present a sentimental view of love. This is a type of love that is shown in service and sacrifice. It is difficult to choose to love when faced with hatred and anger. Jesus tells the disciples that all will know that they are his disciples because of the love they show for one another. This description of the early Christian community will be repeated in the Acts of the Apostles: “See how they love one another.”
Christian love is the hallmark of Christianity.
We see it lived in the witness of the martyrs. We see it in the example of the lives of the saints. We see it in the holy women and men
who live and love daily, making small and large sacrifices for others.

FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
In the first sentence of today’s Gospel passage from John, Jesus’ address at the Last Supper, the words “glorify” or
“glorified” appear five times. For John, glory has to do with honor and reputation, the primary characteristic of a person.
John thus invites us to reflect upon what God’s glory fully means. God is glorified when God’s truest nature is revealed, as the God who loves. Today’s passage is situated between two demonstrations of Jesus’ love: the washing of feet and going to the cross. The capacity to glorify God extends to all of us. Like Jesus, love is revealed both in our mundane acts of service and in our acts and commitments of great sacrifice. Jesus’ “new commandment,” flowing from God’s love within us, invites us to extend and deepen our love for others, to include everyone. We may then reveal God’s truest nature to everyone, and so glorify God.
MADE FOR EACH OTHER We are introduced to the book of Revelation’s great concluding vision in our second reading. The completion of God’s project of salvation is described as a new Jerusalem coming from heaven, to form a new heaven and new earth.
The image of a marriage articulates this vision, in which the two sides of God’s good creation, earth and heaven, are joined in a final union. Earth (the physical universe) will not be destroyed, but instead be fully renewed.
This vision rejects any notion that the physical and the spiritual are ultimately separate and opposed to each other.
It rejects the idea that heaven is an escape from a prison of earthly life. Like a marriage partnership, these two sides of reality are fundamentally made for each other. Life in heaven and life on earth are quite different now. But the life of faith, here and now, offers a foretaste of God’s promised future.
ALL THINGS NEW
The new heaven and new earth described by Revelation is where God will dwell fully among God’s beloved creation.
God’s reign will be a reign of love, where death will be no more. In Revelation, death fuels fear and resentment, which turn to cycles of violence and destruction, and to social systems that sustain injustice. These cycles of death will one day be broken by love. In God’s reign of love, new energies of creativity and human fulfillment can be released.
When God says “behold, I make all things new,” God is speaking of both the present and the future. God is working now, in every person and community, in every part of part of creation, to bring about this new reality. We the Church must learn to see God working in our lives, our workplaces, and our neighborhoods, breaking cycles of death. We are summoned to join in what God is doing, releasing new energies of love, anticipating the final fulfillment of God’s work.

QUINTO DOMINGO DE PASCUA
En la primera frase del pasaje del Evangelio de hoy de Juan, el discurso de Jesús en la Última Cena, las palabras “glorificar” o
“glorificado” aparecen cinco veces. Para Juan, la gloria tiene que ver con el honor y la reputación, la característica principal de una persona. Así, Juan nos invita a reflexionar sobre lo que significa plenamente la gloria de Dios. Dios es glorificado cuando se revela su naturaleza más verdadera, como el Dios que ama. El pasaje de hoy se sitúa entre dos demostraciones del amor de Jesús: el lavatorio de los pies y el paso por la cruz. La capacidad de glorificar a Dios se extiende a todos nosotros. Como Jesús, el amor se revela tanto en nuestros actos mundanos de servicio como en nuestros actos y compro- misos de gran sacrificio. El “mandamiento nuevo” de Jesús, que brota del amor de Dios en nosotros, nos invita a extender y profundizar nuestro amor por los demás, para incluir a todos.
Así podremos revelar a todos la verdadera naturaleza de Dios y glorificar a Dios.
HECHO EL UNO PARA EL OTRO En la segunda lectura se nos presenta la gran visión final del libro del Apocalipsis. La culminación del proyecto de salvación de Dios se describe como una nueva Jerusalén que viene del cielo, para formar un cielo nuevo y una tierra nueva.
La imagen de un matrimonio articula esta visión, en la que las dos partes de la buena creación de Dios, la tierra y el cielo, se unen en una unión final. La tierra (el universo físico) no se destruirá, sino que se renovará por completo.
Esta visión rechaza cualquier noción de que lo físico y lo espiritual están en última instancia separados y opuestos entre sí. Rechaza la idea de que el cielo sea una escapatoria de la prisión de la vida terrenal. Al igual que un matrimonio, estas dos partes de la realidad están hechas fundamentalmente la una para la otra. La vida en el cielo y la vida en la tierra son muy diferentes ahora. Pero la vida de fe, aquí y ahora, ofrece un anticipo del futuro prometido por Dios.
TODAS LAS COSAS NUEVAS El cielo nuevo cielo y la tierra nueva descritos por el Apocalipsis es donde Dios habitará plenamente entre su amada creación. El reino de Dios será un reino de amor, donde la muerte ya no existirá. En el Apocalipsis, la muerte alimenta el miedo y el resentimiento, que se convierten en ciclos de violencia y destrucción, y en sistemas sociales que mantienen la injusticia. Estos ciclos de muerte se romperán un día por el amor. En el reino de amor de Dios, se podrán liberar nuevas energías de creatividad y realización humana.
Cuando Dios dice “he aquí que hago nuevas todas las cosas”, está hablando tanto del presente como del futuro. Dios está trabajando ahora, en cada persona y comunidad, en cada parte de la creación, para llevar a cabo esta nueva realidad.
Nosotros, la Iglesia, debemos aprender a ver a Dios trabajando en nuestras vidas, en nuestros lugares de trabajo y en nuestros barrios, rompiendo los ciclos de muerte. Estamos llamados a unirnos a lo que Dios está haciendo, liberando nuevas energías de amor, anticipando el cumplimiento final de la obra de Dios.
