Dear Families:

Last Sunday's Gospel warned us about the need to strengthen our spiritual life and listen to the word of Jesus, serenely.

Today we find the second element of this vigilance: prayer.

How to pray? Why pray? These are ques ons we have all asked. Some mes we say, "I do not know how to pray”.

St. Luke, the evangelist of prayer, sees Jesus as the most prayerful of all...in constant dialogue with the Father. Let us try to discover this connec on, through the prayer that we hear in today’s Gospel - The Lord's Prayer.

Before praying, we must become aware of who we are and who God is. He is the All, the Absolute in our lives. Some mes we pray as the client with the shop owner with a list of requests on hand. Instead, we should focus on the feeling of joy at being with God, in the company of our brothers and sisters. He is the Holy One, that which is totally different from man and His other creatures. Jesus has sanc fied the name of God because He has revealed his true face to us. So too, we must sanc fy the name of God, recognizing Him as who He is:

Father, Lord, Life, Love and Salva on.

To pray is to learn to forget oneself, and to surrender ourselves to the universal project of salva on. Thus, prayer requires us to put aside our agendas. Chris an prayer is the prayer of the poor.

However, prayer is not just a balm for our hurts - something to turn to only when we have problems or needs. Faith in Christ is a way of living. Many mes we turn to prayer only when things go wrong. We take up the Rosary only when nothing else works. But faith is not just a cure-all. Faith is to allow ourselves to be transformed in Christ, in order to pass safely through all the complexi es of life: the good and the bad mes, sickness, worries, pains, failures and successes. To pray constantly is something that we are taught from childhood. Perseverance in prayer is certainly a gi , but it is also a discipline that we can all prac ce. God never abandons his people and His mercy is abundant. That is at the core of our faith and so we trust in the power of prayer.

Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 24, 2022

Genesis 18:20-32; Colossians 2:12-14; Luke 11:1-13 Psalm 138

Pope Francis Prayer Intentions July 2022

We pray for the elderly, who represent the roots and memory of a

people; may their experience and wisdom help young people to look

towards the future with hope and responsibility.

Weekly Reflections

“When we feel strong doubt and fear, and it seems that we are sinking in the

difficult moments of life, where everything becomes dark; we should not be ashamed to shout, like Peter:

Lord save me! Call out to the heart of God, the heart of Jesus: Lord, save me!

It is a beau ful prayer! We can repeat it many mes: Lord, save me!

Intenciones de oración del Papa Francisco

Julio 2022

Reflexiones Semanales “Cuando sen mos fuerte duda y miedo

Message from page 3…

God The difficult part is not in the phrases we use to pray, but rather in the degree of commitment that leads to prayer.

It is to be a par cipant in His plans for our lives; to place ourselves at His disposi on.

In conclusion, be er than the many "our fathers" that fall from our lips, as leaves from a tree, is one Our Father, lived diligently, throughout the en re year. To pray this prayer is to live in the spirit of Jesus.

May God bless you.

Father Celestino, Pastor

Praying the Rosary at St. Jude

The Rosary is prayed in English every morning (except Sundays) in the Church at 6:55 a.m.

All are invited.

On July 26 the Roman Catholic Church commemorates the parents of the Virgin Mary, Saints Joachim and Anne. The couple's faith and perseverance brought them through the sorrow of childlessness, to the joy of conceiving and raising the immaculate and sinless woman who would give birth to Christ.

Some of the Church's tradi onal beliefs about Joachim, Anne and their daughter, are outline in the “Protoevangelium of James”, which illustrates how Joachim was deeply grieved, along with his wife Anne, by their childlessness.

As it turned out, however, the couple were to be blessed even more abundantly than Abraham and Sarah. An angel revealed this to Anne when he appeared to her and prophesied that all genera ons would honor their future child: “The Lord has heard your prayer, and you shall conceive, and shall bring forth; and your seed shall be spoken of in all the world.”

*****

“Married love differs from any other love in the world. By its nature, the love of husband and wife is so complete, so ordered to a lifetime of communion with God and each other, that it is open to creating a new human being they will love and care for together. … That power to create a new life with God is at the heart of what spouses share with each other.”
