neighbor. Holding on to cultural regulations and laws of purification, they ignored who was on the way. For them, these rules took precedence. When seeing a person bleeding to death on the road, their sense of legal integrity had more relevance than a human being, who was also his neighbor according to Jewish laws.
Not only opted for the blind and literal observance of the law but they preferred to be “of the bunch” to be heroes. We need heroes. It is another way of saying neighbors. For the Catholic, the neighbor represents everyone. We cannot discriminate when doing a favor, an act of charity or simply doing justice to
someone.
The good brother, the true neighbor, is represented in the Samaritan. It was this
"foreigner" who represented
Jesus. Out of compassion, which is another word and way of saying with charity, for love, the Samaritan goes to the rescue of the stranger. Compassion moved him to improve the situation of the one who needed it. It was compassion that moved our Lord Jesus Christ to die on a cross.
Today the readings remind us of what God has given to each and every one of us; the capacity to make a positive difference in the lives of others. And this must be expressed from and especially in the daily life of our lives and
certainly in a ministry in our Church.
For Jesus the neighbor is a person, a human being, it is not an object. We have to
decide what is most important in our relationship with God and understand that my relationship with God and the relationship with our neighbor go hand in hand. God gives us laws and guides, because God is not chaos but order, to follow him and thus there lies justice and tranquility. These laws do not limit us to be of service but on the contrary they allow us to be free when we give ourselves to others. God never imposes arbitrary laws. More than prescriptive laws they are descriptive of the love that must always be exercised. It means to go beyond, deeper… to honor the spirit of the law which can only be found in God’s heart. Let us be Samaritans, let us observe the law in our hearts, let us be disciples.
El sacerdote y el Levita no reconocieron a su prójimo. Sosteniéndose a las reglamentaciones culturales y leyes de purificación, ellos ignoraron a quien se encontraba en el camino. Para ellos estas reglas tuvieron precedencia. Al ver a una persona desangrada en el camino, su sentido de integridad legal tuvo más relevancia que un ser humano que también era su prójimo según las leyes judías.
No solamente optaron por la observancia ciega y poco meditada de la ley sino que prefirieron ser “del montón” a ser héroes. Necesitamos héroes. Es otra manera de decir vecinos. Para el católico el “prójimo”
representa a todos. No podemos hacer discriminación a la hora de hacer un favor, un acto de caridad o
simplemente hacer justicia a alguien.
El buen hermano, el verdadero vecino, está representado en el samaritano.
Fue este
“extranjero” quien representó a Jesús. Por compasión, que es otra palabra y manera de decir por amor, el samaritano va al rescate del desconocido. La compasión lo movió a mejorar la situación del necesitado. Fue la compasión quien movió a nuestro Señor Jesucristo a morir en una cruz. Hoy las lecturas nos recuerdan lo que Dios nos ha dado a todos y a cada uno de nosotros; la capacidad de hacer una diferencia positiva en la vida de otros. Y ésta debe de ser expresada desde y especialmente en lo cotidiano de nuestras vidas y ciertamente en nuestro ministerio en la Iglesia.
Para Jesús el prójimo es una persona, un ser humano, no es un objeto. Tenemos que decidir que es más importante en nuestra relación con Dios. Igualmente debemos comprender que la relación con Dios y la relación con el prójimo van de la mano.
Dios nos da leyes y guías, porque Dios no es caos sino orden, para seguirle y así vivir una existencia en justicia y tranquilidad. Estas leyes no nos limitan para ser de servicio sino al contrario nos dan la libertad para poder darnos a los demás. Dios nunca impone leyes arbitrarias. Más que prescriptivas son descriptivas del amor que siempre hay que ejercer. Significa ir más allá, más profundo… honrar el espíritu de la ley que solo se puede encontrar in el corazón de Dios. Seamos pues samaritanos, observemos la ley en nuestros corazones, seamos discípulos.

When Tears are Our Prayers Lord and Father of all, We ask with the apostles,
Teach us to pray.
In our prayers, teach us to listen.
In times of stress, let our moaning and our tears come to you as prayers.
Let us walk without fear but with great compassion in those times of seemingly intractable conflict.
Deliver us from despair.
Help us to seek your face.
Strengthen us to do your will.
Open our hearts and hands to receive your blessings,
to be blessings to others,
to stand in solidarity with all your children, especially those who are overwhelmed
by turmoil and great loss.

El Ministerio Mantas de Oración se reúne cada otro miércoles en el Centro Pastoral de 10am a medio día. Este grupo hace mantas de oración hechos de tejido o de ganchillo mientras rezan individualmente y como grupo para que el receptor de cada manta. Estas mantas representan un símbolo visible de nuestras oraciones y presencia. Las mantas se han dado a aquellos que enfrentan tiempos difíciles, enfermedad o para celebrar un momento especial para llevar el apoyo y la calidez del amor de Dios y la sanación. Para obtener más información en como puede pedir una manta de oración, favor de llamar a la oficina parroquial, 773-278-4808.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets every other Wednesday in the Thiele Center from 10am to noon.
This group knits and crochets prayer shawls while praying individually and as a group for the recipient of each shawl. These shawls represent a visible symbol of our prayers and presence. Shawls have been given to those facing challenging times, illness or to celebrate a special moment to bring the comfort and warmth of God’s love and healing.
