Francisco Yus imparte pragmática en la Universidad de Alicante, España. Es doctor en lingüística y se ha especializado en la aplicación de la pragmática (especialmente la teoría de la relevancia) a los discursos de masas y a aspectos de la comunicación, sobre los que ha publicado numerosos artículos y libros (sobre la teoría de la relevancia: Cooperación y relevancia. Dos aproximaciones pragmáticas a la interpretación, 1997 y 2ª edición actualizada en 2003). Por ejemplo, ha aplicado la pragmática a la comunicación en los cómics alternativos (Conversational cooperation in alternative comics, 1995; El discurso femenino en el cómic alternativo inglés, 2001), ha propuesto un modelo verbal-visual en la comunicación mediante los medios de masas (La interpretación y la imagen de masas, 1997), ha estudiado la interfaz entre lo oral y lo escrito (La preeminencia de la voz, 1998) y, sobre todo, ha desarrollado una línea de investigación pragmática sobre la comunicación mediada por ordenador (Ciberpragmática, Ariel 2001; Ciberpragmática 2.0, Ariel 2010; Cyberpragmatics, John Benjamins, 2011). Sus últimas investigaciones también se han centrado en la aplicación de la relevancia a aspectos de la comunicación como el malentendido y la ironía, así como a la producción e interpretación de los discursos humorísticos (Humour and Relevance, John Benjamins, 2016). En la actualidad es Director del Instituto Interuniversitario de Lenguas Modernas Aplicadas de la Comunidad Valenciana (IULMA) en la Universidad de Alicante, así como Director del Grupo de Investigación “El inglés profesional y académico” en la misma universidad
