Change in the Mass Schedule for 2018
Dear Parishioners and Friends of Santa Maria,
Beginning January 1, 2018, we will have a new schedule of masses at our parish. I have decided
to make these changes in the mass schedule based on the following facts:
The declining number of truly Italian‐speaking parishioners at the 8:15AM Sunday Mass. Currently attending this Mass in Italian, we have a ratio of two parishioners who are English‐speaking per one parishioner who is Italian‐speaking
The declining number of parishioners at the 5:00PM Sunday Mass
The Archdiocese – through the Making All Things New Process –has asked all Cluster parishes to review their Mass Schedule and reduce or increase the number of Masses given their Mass attendance and the Masses offered at the other surrounding parishes
I have also consulted the Parish Council and over eighty parishioners representing the various communities present in our parish family. After said consultation and deliberations, this will be
our
NEW Sunday Mass Schedule beginning in 2018:
Saturday –Vigil for Sunday – at 5:00PM in ENGLISH (no change). (Guitarist)
Sunday –
Mass at 8:00AM in ENGLISH (we will provide the readings of the Mass in Italian as we
have been doing up to now – for any Italian-speaking parishioner wishing to follow the
Mass in Italian). (No organist or choir)
Mass at 9:15AM in SPANISH (Organist and Cantor and Spanish-speaking Choir)
Mass at 10:30AM in ENGLISH (Organist and Cantor)
Mass at 12NOON in ENGLISH (Organist and Adult and Children’s Choir)
As you can see beginning 2018, we will no longer have the Mass in Italian on Sundays and we will no longer have the 5:00PM Mass on Sundays.
After surveying the weekday masses in our Cluster parishes, I have also decided to change the mass
on Thursdays at 7:00PM from English to Spanish beginning again in 2018. Only the mass on
Thursdays will be changed to Spanish…the other fourteen weekday masses remain the same, in English. I
have also decided to have the Vigil Mass for Holy Days of Obligation in Spanish since we have four
Masses in English on the Holy Days of Obligation themselves.
I realized that we “should” be having more masses not less masses, however given our current reality or circumstances it seems to me that this new schedule is the least disruptive, continues to provide a Vigil Mass for Sunday, and three Sunday masses in English and only one in Spanish. As “Missionary
Disciples” allow me once again to encourage you to do everything possible to invite someone to worship the Lord with us at Santa Maria…so that our parish remains alive and viable.
In prayer for you and your families and for all the parishioners and friends of Santa Maria, in the Sacred Hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, Father Martin – Pastor
Make a Mother Teresa Costume
Any of you looking for last minute costume ideas for All Saints’ Day? I know I am! How about making a Mother Teresa costume from a pillow case, a single bed sheet, and a roll of blue painter’s tape? Read on my friends, read on!
Little Violet is going to be Mother Teresa for our All Saints’ Day. She’s too small for a sheet, so I cut down some white fabric. The best part??? This costume doesn’t involve any sewing!!! (Now that’s my kind of costume!)
All you need is some white fabric and some blue painter’s tape, scissors, a safety pin, and either some bobby pins or a headband. You’ll also need one adorable child for inserting into the costume.
Make a Mother Teresa Costume
.
I have found that a veil falls more evenly around your head if it’s the shape of a half circle rather than a rectangle. Mother Teresa’s order (Missionaries of Charity) have one wide blue stripe and then 2 more narrow blue stripes on the edge of their white garments. So I ran one strip of blue painter’s tape and then cut another one length wise for the 2 more narrow strips. I hot glued the veil onto a headband for baby Violet to keep it on her head because she has no hair for pinning it into.
This piece I made for wrapping around her body. I put her in a white long sleeved shirt and white tights, then wrapped this around her (over her left shoulder and under her right arm) and then safety pinned it to the top of her shoulder.
She’s ready to go!
Make a Mother Teresa Costume
For an older child, you could use the painter’s tape on a white pillow case for the veil and a white single
sheet for wrapping around the body. Use a safety pin and don’t cut the sheet, and pin the pillow case into her hair with some bobby pins. At the end of the day remove the tape and return your sheets to your linen closet!
As always, supervise your children at all times and always take necessary precautions.
