A Catechist’s Prayer

Father of all families,

you have called me to serve the

family in truth and love as a catechist.

May I be faithful

to this call, rooted in your Word,

and open to the gifts

of the Holy Spirit.

May I use these gifts,

especially the gifts of faith,

hope, and love,

to serve the family as a witness to you,

who are love and life and the source

and destiny of all families.

Let your Spirit enlighten my mind and

strengthen my heart so that I can be

a path of Christ’s love to families,

especially those in need,

the homebound and aged,

the disabled and disheartened.

Through the intercession of Mary and Joseph,

I pray for the Church, the Bride of Christ,

whose mission to build a civilization of

love passes through the

family.

Amen

Oración del catequista

Padre de todas las familias,

tú me has llamado a servir a la

Discurso Inaugural (9 - 10 a.m.):

Talleres I y II

Taller I: 10:15 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Taller II: 12:30 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.

1-S

La Liturgia: La Palabra y la Celebración

Rev.

4-S

Eucaristía y Justicia

Her.

5-S

Eucaristía, Matrimonio y Familia

Jose y Luz Solano son miembros del Movimiento Familiar Cristiano, St. Francis on the Brazos, Waco, TX.

Discurso Inaugural (9 - 10 a.m.):

Conferenciante: Padre James Misko, Párroco, Iglesia Católica de Christ the

Taller II: 12:30 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.

1-S

La Liturgia: La Palabra y la Celebración

Rev.

Keynote Presentation (9 - 10 a.m.):

“Do This in Memory of Me”

As the Church in the United States prepares to receive the Third Typical Edition of the Roman

Missal, we are blessed with an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the Sacred Liturgy,

and to appreciate its meaning and importance in our lives. Whether as a catechist, a teacher in a

Catholic school, youth leader, or parish volunteer, you share your faith in Jesus Christ and the

Church. The theme for Catechetical Sunday 2011, Do This in Memory of Me, will help you to

reflect on the beauty and mystery of the Eucharist, your relationship with Jesus Christ, and the

importance of Sunday as the Lord’s Day. In addition, by reflecting on the theme, you will

ap-preciate the importance of participating in the Church’s sacramental life and mission.

needs ought to be welcomed in our parish religious education programs. Participants

will come to understand the various categories of special needs and how to make

ac-commodations in order to help all children grow in their faith.

2-E

Belief in the Real Presence of Christ

Jason Drummond, MA Theology, Catholic Adult Faith Instructor

From ages past, the Church has taught the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. What does the Church mean by the Real Presence? Why is this teaching important to those who are cate-chists? Participants will look at these questions and the centrality of this teaching.

3-E

Take the Time to be Prepared

Janice Berger, RCL Benziger

An effective catechist creates a climate for learning about the Catholic faith. Discipline and management techniques are more successful with a well-prepared lesson. Workshop partici-pants will have an opportunity to design lessons that enhance a learning environment.

4-E

The Eucharist Transforms Us and our Communities

Barbara Budde, Director for Diocesan Office of Social Concerns

There is an intimate relationship between the celebration of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist and the social teachings of the Church. Our participation in the liturgy must affect our daily lives and how we relate to God, to one another, and to God’s creation. This workshop will guide par-ticipants to a deeper appreciation of the profound relationship between Eucharist and justice.

8-E

What does Eucharistic Spirituality Mean to Catechists?

Dr. Geri Telepak, Director for Diocesan Office of Religious Education & Formation How is the Eucharist the source of a catechist’s spiritual life? How does this source help us grow in virtue and living out our faith? In what ways does the Eucharist instruct us in our faith? Participants will explore these questions and the meaning of Eucharistic spirituality.

(24)

9-E

Catechesis is a Ministry of the Word

Sherie Zebrowski, Director of Religious Education, St. Patrick Parish, Hutto

The study of Sacred Scripture has always held a preeminent position in the formation and education of the faithful. This workshop will discuss the special place scripture has in the life of the Church and how catechesis is a ministry of the Word.

10-E

Teens’ Relationship with Jesus Christ through the Celebration of the Liturgy

Chris Bartlett, Youth Minister, St. William Parish, Round Rock

If the Church’s liturgy documents call for the full, conscious and active participation of the faithful, then we must incorporate teens into the celebration of the Eucharist. A Prayer for Family Commitment

Dear God our Father,

you have called all Christian families to

be a sign of your love to the world.

Help us to be generous with the

gifts of life and love that you

have showered on our family.

May we share them so that our homes become

true signs of unitive and fruitful love.

Let us never forget to thank you each day

for all that sustains us and to look to Christ,

who comes to us in the events of family life,

in the sacraments of the Church,

and in service to the poor.

In all of this, our family becomes a

living expression of your Church,

a hallowed home of life and love.

By the power of the Holy Spirit, may all of

us—spouses, parents, and children—share,

as members of his Body, in Jesus’ mission

to build a civilization of love.

Father, we ask this in Jesus’ name

in union with the Holy Spirit.

Amen

Oración por el Compromiso

de la Familia

Querido Dios nuestro Padre,

has llamado a todas las familias cristianas a

colmado a nuestra familia.

nosotros —esposos, padres e hijos— compartamos,

Amen
