The Most Holy Trinity / La Santísima Trinidad May 22, 2016 / 22 de Mayo 2016
We are on a long and eventful journey. Today's readings for Trinity Sunday suc-cinctly cover the depth and breadth of our human travels. The very beginnings of our journey are revealed in the reading from Proverbs. God's plan filled with divine wisdom was born before the earth was made. In today's
Gospel, Jesus speaks of his own personal journey. He has come from the Father and will return to the Father. Only then will the Advocate-the Spirit of Truth-take us onward. This does not diminish the fact that the journey will be hard. The very setting of the Gospel is the night before
Je-sus died. As Saint Paul writes to the Romans, "We even boast of our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, and endurance, proven character, and proven character, hope" (Romans 5:3-4). Ulti-mately, our human journey is modeled by the Holy Trinity-a family of love among Father, Son, and Spirit that we are all called to emulate.
THE MOST HOLY TRINITY
Perhaps the deepest, the most pro-found of all mysteries is the mystery of the Trinity. The Church teaches us that although there is only one God, yet, there are three Persons in God. We came to know this immense mys-tery because Christ revealed it to us. Just before ascending He told them: "Go teach all na-tions, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19). For at the Last Supper, Jesus told us: "I came forth from the Father." So He is different from the Father. But He also promised: "If I go, I will send Him the Paraclete to you. . . . He will guide you to all truth" (John 16:28, 7, 13). So the Holy Spirit is also different. Even though the Three Persons are One God, yet they are distinct. Even though everything the Three Persons do outside the Di-vine nature is done by all Three, yet it is suitable that we attribute some works specially to one or the other Per-son. So we speak of the Father especially as the power of creation, of the Son as the wisdom of the Father, of the Holy Spirit as goodness and sanctification. By be-coming man, God the Son offered us a share in the inner life of the Trinity. By brace, we are brought into the per-fect communion of life and love which is God, Father, and Son and Holy Spirit. This sharing in the life of the Trinity is meant to culminate in heaven, where we will see the three Persons face, united to them in unspeakable love.
THE MONTH OF MAY
It is traditional to give special honor to Mary the Mother of God this month. Scripture re-minds us that her son described her as the one who most especially heard the word of God and put it into practice. Her life was a ‘yes’ to the will of God. As we honor her this month through flowers in front of her statue or pictures in our homes and through special prayers, let us ask her to help us follow her example. May we con-tinue to grow in the ability to hear the word of God and put it into practice in our lives.
WAYS TO BE MERCIFUL
1) Send a card, flowers, gift or note to someone on the six-month anniversary of his or her loved one’s death. By then most people have stopped recognizing their grief. 2) Make a meal (or buy a
month a gift certificate) for a mom who’s just given birth or adopted a child, or for someone who’s just gone through a loss. 3) Instead of losing patience with someone online (or in person), try to hear their fear. Ask God for what Solomon asked for: “an understanding heart”. 4) Make a point to smile greet or make conversation with someone who is not in your everyday circle.

LA SANTÍSIMA TRINIDAD
Tal vez el profundo, el más profundo de todos los misterios es el misterio de la Trinidad. La Iglesia nos ensena que a pesar de que solo hay un Dios, sin embargo, hay tres personas en Dios. Llegamos a conocer este inmenso mis-terio porque Cristo se lo revelo a nosotros. Justo antes de ascen-der Él les dijo: Id, ensenad a todas las naciones, bautizándolos en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo” (Mateo 28:19). Para en la última cena, Jesús no dijo: Salí del Padre.” Así que Él es diferente del Padre. Pero también prometió: “Si me voy, os lo enviare el Paráclito para que él os guiara a toda la ver-dad…” (Juan 16:28, 7,13). Por lo que el Espíritu Santo también es diferente. A pesar de que las tres personas son un solo Dios, sin embargo, son distintos. A pesar de que todo lo que las tres personas lo hacen fuera de la naturaleza divina se lleva a cabo por los tres, sin embargo, es conveniente que atribuimos algunas obras especialmente a una u otra persona. Así hablamos del Pa-dre sobre todo porque el poder de la creación, del Hijo como la sabiduría del Padre, del Espíritu Santo como la bondad y la san-tificación. Al hacerse hombre, Dios el Hijo nos ofreció una parti-cipación en la vida interior de la Trinidad. Por corsé, somos lle-vados a la perfecta comunión de vida y amor que es Dios. Estamos en un viaje largo y lleno de
acontecimientos. Las lecturas de hoy para el Domingo de la Santísima Trinidad cubren sucintamente la profundidad y la amplitud de nuestros viajes humanos. Los comienzos de nuestro viaje se revelan en la lectura de
Proverbios. El plan de Dios lleno de sabiduría divina nació antes de que la tierra existiera. En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús habla de su propio viaje personal. Él ha venido del Padre y volverá al Padre. Solo en ese momento el Paráclito -- el Espíritu de la Verdad- nos llevara hacia
adelante. Esto no disminuye la dificultad del viaje. El contexto mismo del Evangelio es la noche antes de la muerte de Jesús. Como san Pablo les escribe a los romanos, "Nos gloriamos hasta de los sufrimientos, pues sabemos que el sufrimiento engendra la paciencia, la paciencia engendra la virtud salida, la virtud salida engendra la esperanza" (Romanos 5:3-4). En última instancia, nuestro viaje humano esta modelado por la Santísima Trinidad -una familia de amor entre el Padre, el Hijo y el Espíritu que todos somas llamados a emular.
EL MES DE MAYO
Es una tradición honrar especialmente en este mes a María Madre de Dios. Las Escrituras nos recuerdan que su hijo la describe como quien más escu-chó la palabra de Dios y la puso en práctica. Su vida fué siempre un si a la voluntad de Dios. Al honrarla con flores frente a su imagen o frente a su foto en nues-tros hogares y a través de oraciones especiales, pidá-mosle que nos ayude a seguir su ejemplo. Que sigamos creciendo en habilidad para escuchar la palabra de Dios y la pongamos en práctica en nuestras vidas.

1) Enviar una tarjeta, flores, regalo o nota a alguien en el aniversario de seis meses de s ser querido de la muerte. Para entonces la memo-ria de la gente ha dejado de
reco-nocer su dolor. 2) Hacer una comida o comprar un mes un certificado de regalo para una madre que acaba de dar a luz o adoptado un niño, o para alguien que acaba de pasar a través de una perdida. 3) En lugar de perder la paciencia con alguien en línea o en persona, tratar de escuchar su miedo. Pide a Dios por lo que Solomon pidió. “un corazón que entienda” 4) Hacer un punto de sonreír, saludar o hacer conversación con alguien que está en su círculo cotidiano.

We of Mission Dolores Basilica Parish, as part of the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of San Francisco, pledge ourselves to be a light shining in the darkness through the love that we share in the name of Christ, and through the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
