Introduction

As previous editions (this is the third time we organize this symposium) we try to get

close the research and basic science with the clinic in the field of Neurooncology.

Nowadays Medicine a and above all Oncology are very focused on individual treatments

under the principle that not all the tumors of the same lineage should be treated the

same, underlining the importance of molecular biology with its pathways and proteins

that makes up specific targets for certain drugs. Brain gliomas, mainly malignant brain

gliomas, are not an exception of this as we know after the turn out that experimented

the last WHO CNS tumors classification, recently published in 2016.

In the first session we are going to talk about experimental studies that are conducted

on glioblastomas in the laboratory, their molecular diagnosis and studies of large series

of cases based on “machine-learning techniques” to obtain relevant information about

how these tumors behave and its prognosis.

In the evening session we will treat more clinical aspects as are the use of resources in

the everyday practice that help us to manage and treat the patients (PET studies, 5Ala,

chemotherapy tailored for molecular tumors profiles, ultrasound-guided surgery) and

our interesting experience with the neuro psychology studies that we are conducting at

our centre in patients with brain tumors.

As a new activity this year we have added to the programme on Saturday morning a

poster session that will focus on aspects related to the topic of the meeting that will be

discussed briefly.
