TODAY'S READINGS

First Reading -- Jesus tells the disciples that they will be witnesses to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:1-11).

Psalm -- God mounts his throne to shouts of joy: a blare of trumpets for the Lord (Psalm 47).

Second Reading -- God seated Jesus at his right hand in the heavens (Ephesians 1:17-23) or Hebrews 9:24-28; 10:19-23. Gospel -- As Jesus blessed his disciples he parted from them and was taken up to heaven (Luke 24:46-53).

The English translation of the Psalm Responses from the Lectionary for Mass (c) 1969, 1981, 1997, International Commission on English in the Liturgy Corporation. All rights reserved.

(Lucas 24:46-53).

Salmo responsorial: Leccionario I (c) 1976, Comisión Episcopal de Pastoral Litúrgica de la Conferencia del

Episcopado Mexicano. Usado con permiso. Todos los derechos reservados.

God mounts his throne amid shouts of joy; the LORD, amid trumpet blasts. -- Psalm 47:6

CONTINUALLY PRAISING GOD In both the first reading and the Gospel we are told about Christ's glorious as-cension into heaven. Paul's letter to the Ephesians reminds us that Christ has been seated at God's right hand in heav-en, above every choir of angels. There might be a temptation to stay at an awed distance from Jesus Christ. However, the tone of today's readings is far from that temptation. The tone is exultant and the message is urgent. We are to be his wit-nesses, and the Gospel describes the first witnesses this way: "[W]ith great joy . . . they were continually in the temple praising God" (Luke 24:53).

How can we continually praise God? The answer can be found in the second reading, in which Paul prays that God will give us a "Spirit of wisdom and revelation" in order to know Christ clearly (Ephesians 1:17). We cannot stand at a distance. We are to be enlight-ened and empowered.

¿Cómo podemos alabar a Dios continuamente? No podemos mantenernos a distancia.

Sought Through Prayer and Meditation

June 24-26, 2016

This weekend we will continue to seek God’s will for us and we’ll share old and new tools that will help us on our spir-itual journey. More:

www.stfrancisretreat.com/events Knights of Columbus –St. Martin Parish

Our Lady of Fatima, Council 3436 Please note:

On Friday, April 15, over 140 people lost their homes in a fast-moving apartment fire at the Twin Pines Manor apartment complex. One person was seriously in-jured; fortunately, no one was killed. Sunnyvale Community Services is the City of Sunnyvale’s sole emergency assis-tance agency and they are overwhelmed by this crisis. They published the follow-ing brief:

Sunnyvale Community Services is the City of Sunnyvale's sole emergency assis-tance agency and we were quickly pulled into service to help these fire victims. We met families with babies, families with school-age children, seniors living on fixed incomes, and adults and children with chronic medical conditions. In other words, these people are just like us. Ex-cept, now they are homeless.

The community has been remarkably gen-erous. Many individuals, companies and faith-based organizations have donated money, gift cards, and support to these families in need.

Donations are needed – the people affect-ed are currently locataffect-ed in temporary loca-tions, such as motels, so items and goods are not needed, but money and services are needed desperately. Sunnyvale Com-munity Services is taking donations (SVGives), and a Go Fund Me page (https://www.gofundme.com/2hzhv4kk) has been created. For more information, please see http://www.mercurynews.com/ bay-area-news/ci_29772259/sunnyvale- firefighters-battle-two-alarm-blaze-at-apartment.
