FROM THE PASTOR…
Dear Parishioners,
On this final Sunday of Advent, I remind you to clip out the Christmas Schedule (elsewhere in this bulletin, as well as in the current issue of the Woodside Herald) and I invite you to join us this week in celebrating the rich bless-ings of our faith in the Word Made Flesh.
At the Christmas Masses, a special collection seeks help for the good works of Catholic Charities (see the notice below), so I take this occasion to request your extra-generosity to St. Raphael’s at this time of the year. We really depend upon it. Use the CHRISTMAS OFFER-ING envelope in your parish packet, or one of the extras available at the rear of the church.
I join all who minister in this parish in wishing you and your loved ones the joy and grace of the upcoming holydays.
Que la paz y el gozo de esta Navidad llenen sus corazones.
Sung Tan Chuk Ha.
- Father Jerry Jecewiz

THIS ‘N THAT
1. Our Food Pantry will close for a break starting Dec. 24th, and will re-open on Thurs., Jan. 7th. 2. Kindly return your wrapped Giving Tree gifts as soon as possible, if you haven’t done so
al-ready .You can put them under the trees in the altar area, or leave them at the rectory during of-fice hours. Be sure to tape the tag (indicating gender and age of the child) on the outside. Thank you.
3. Some ―Generations of Faith‖ reminders: checks should be made out to ―Catholic Foundation of Brooklyn and Queens‖, not to ―Generations of Faith‖. Checks made out to ―St. Raphael Church‖ have to be cashed here and then exchange checks have to be issued. You can save us this ex-tra step by titling the check correctly. Payments (check or cash) can be handed in at St. Raph-ael’s. Thank you for your cooperation.
SAVE THE DATE: Our Lectors and our Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion will have a spe-cial luncheon meeting in the rectory basement on Sunday, January 10, 2016, at 1:30 pm. Details to follow, but please hold the date.
WHAT ARE THE POSADAS?
Posadas are an important part of Mexican Christmas celebra-tions. The word posada means "inn" or "shelter" in Spanish, and this tradition re-enacts Mary and Joseph's search for a place to stay in Bethlehem. Posadas are held in Mexico on each of the nine nights leading up to Christmas, from December 16 to 24th.
Posadas are held in neighborhoods across Mexico and are also becoming popular in the United States.
The celebration begins with a procession in which the partici-pants hold candles and sing Christmas carols. Sometimes there will be individuals who play the parts of Mary and Joseph who lead the way, or occasionally images representing them are carried. The pro-cession will make its way to a particular home (a different one each night), where a special song (La Cancion Para Pedir Posada) is sung.
The Posadas began in our parish last Sunday, Dec.
13th, and will continue daily until Dec. 24th. The list of homes hosting the event are elsewhere in
