Solemnity of Corpus Christi

In this Solemn Feast in which we proclaim and venerate the real presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist, we reaffirm in faith this holiest of mysteries.

Traces of the devotion and veneration of the Blessed Sacrament, dates back to the 13th century. It began as a local diocesan feast in 1246 in Liege, Belgium on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday. When Jacques Pantaleon of Troyes became Pope Urban IV in 1264, instituted the Solemnity of Corpus Christi on the Thursday after Pentecost as a feast for the entire Latin Rite. However, this feast was not widely celebrated for half a century until the bull of Urban IV

Transiturus de hoc mundo was included in the collection of laws

known as the Clementines and promulgated by Pope John XXII in 1317.

So, what do we proclaim with this feast? We make known to the whole world the source of eternal life. Jesus said: “I Am the Bread of Life” using the name of God “I Am” He tells us that it is God himself giving himself to us so that we may be one with him, and remain in him, and with him. We proclaim that Jesus fulfills his promise to remain with us till the end of times. He remains present Body, Soul, and Divinity with us in the Holy Eucharist. We proclaim that Jesus, the source of life eternal, wants to give us his life.

Come and be fed; come and drink of the fount of salvation. With much love,
