STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION/
REFLEXIONES DEL ESPIRITU DE SERVICIO
5th Sund a in Ordin ar Time: Feb ruar 7 That-just as Jesus rose early to pray-we, too, may find timein our day to be with God and to receive strength and nourishment from Him.
“Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed...He told them,
‘Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also.
For this purpose have I come.’” - Mark 1:35, 38
In today’s Gospel reading we see a perfect example of stewardship.
Jesus gives His time to do all that God wishes-healing the sick and preaching. But before He begins, Jesus makes time to be alone with God in prayer. It is through prayer, spending time with God, that we find the strength to do what He wishes us to do. Be sure to find time
every day to be with God.

In 2021 the manner of imposing ashes on Ash Wednesday has been modified such that ashes will be imposed by sprinkling on the crown of the head, rather than imposing ashes on the forehead in the way to which we are accustomed in the US.

ADULT CONFIRMATION CLASSES SFDS PILGRIMAGE TO ST. JOSEPH CHURCH
This year marks the 150th Anniversary of Pope Pius IX’s decree, Quemadmodum Deus, naming Saint Joseph, husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary and foster-father of Jesus, as the Patron of the Universal Church. In commemoration of this anniver- sary and recognizing the fitting time for the Church to invoke the intercession of this guardian, His Holiness, Pope Francis has declared this year as a “Year of Saint Joseph” to be observed in the Universal
Church from December 8, 2020 to December 8, 2021.
Throughout history, many of the Church’s sons and daughters have successfully gone to St. Joseph for various needs. He is most well-known as the patron saint of fathers, families, and workers. However, he is in fact efficacious over myriad causes.
“Some Saints are privileged to extend to us their patronage with particular efficacy in certain needs, but not in others; but our holy patron St. Joseph has the power to assist us in all cases, in every necessity, in every undertaking.”
- St. Thomas Aquinas
St. Joseph’s mission is certainly unique and unrepeatable, as Jesus is absolutely unique. In protecting Jesus, in teaching him how to grow in age, wisdom and grace, Saint Joseph is a model for every educator and in particular for every father.
Excepting the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph is our most powerful intercessor in heaven due to his singular role as the Head of the Holy Family.
Memorare to Saint Joseph
Remember, O most pure spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, my great protector, Saint Joseph, that no one ever had recourse to your protection, or implored your aid without obtaining relief. Confiding therefore in your goodness, I come before you. Do not turn down my petitions, foster father of the Redeemer, but graciously receive them. Amen.
Over the next few weeks, we will announce plans for parish liturgical and faith formation activities including events that allow for the gaining of plenary indulgences.
YEAR OF ST. JOSEPH
DECEMBER 8, 2020-DECEMBER 8, 2021 WORLD DAY OF MARRIAGE / DIA MUNDIAL DEL MATRIMONIO
FEBRUARY 14
God our Father, we give you thanks for the gift of marriage: the bond of life and love and the font of the family. The love ofhusband and wife enriches your Church with children, fills the world with a multitude of spiritual fruitfulness and service, and is the
sign of the love of your Son, Jesus Christ, for his Church. The grace of Jesus flowed forth at Cana at the request of the Blessed Mother. May your Son, through the intercession of Mary, pour out upon us a new measure of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit as we join with all people of good will to promote and protect the unique beauty of marriage. May your Holy Sprit enlighten our society to treasure the heroic love of husband and wife, and guide our leaders to sustain and protect the singular place of mothers and fathers in the lives of their children. Father, we ask that our prayers be joined to those of the Virgin Mary, that your Word may transform our service so as to safeguard the incomparable splendor of marriage.
We ask all these things through Christ our Lord, Amen.
Saints Joachim and Anne, pray for us.
In honor of the 150th anniversary since St. Joseph was declared Patron of the Universal Church, His Holiness,
Pope Francis has given a Plenary indulgence to anyone who visits St. Joseph Catholic Church (1505 Kane St. Houston, TX 77007) and asks for St. Joseph’s prayers in the form of a pilgrimage. In addition, Pope Francis has declared this year as a “Year of St. Joseph”
from December 8, 2020 to December 8, 2021.
To commemorate these events, we have arranged to go on a pilgrimage to St. Joseph Church on March 19th, from 11:00 am to 12 noon. We will gather at the church entrance around 10:45 am.
If interested or for inquiries, please call Vicky Quiray at 713-774-7475 or email, [email protected]
