Page Two Catholic Community of Gonzales and Waelder October 18, 2020 “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s.” - Matthew 22:21
Everything we are and everything we have belongs to God. We aren’t “owners” of anything, we are merely
“stewards” of the gifts God has given each of us. All God is asking is that we give back a portion of what He gave us. This is the essence of Stewardship. God should be our first priority in everything. All else comes second, especially our money.
"Den al César lo que es del César y a Dios lo que es de Dios".
- MATEO 22:21

Notes from the Pastor:
In the Gospel for this Sunday, Jesus says “repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” This Sun- day we are reminded that we serve God our creator and we are reminded of our duty to be good citizens within our country, the United States of America. To be a good citizen means that we have to be informed about political issues and we have to vote.
The Catholic Church will never tell you who to vote for. I will never tell you who to vote for. You must vote with your con- science. To vote with your conscience, you must be knowl- edgeable about your faith. For assistance, please go to the web- site of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and read the document "Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizen- ship". There you will find documents and videos in English and Spanish.
https://www.usccb.org/offices/justice-peace-human- development/forming-consciences-faithful-citizenship
Please remember, Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
Early voting will be available until Friday, October 30, 2020.
Please take time to pray and invite the wisdom of the Holy Spirit into your voting decision.
Our All Souls Day masses will be on Monday, November 2nd at 6:30pm. I, Fr. Jason, will celebrate the mass at the Gonzales Catholic Cemetery. Fr. Paul will celebrate the mass at the Waelder Cemetery. Please join us for these beautiful celebra- tions where we gather and pray for our departed friends and family. We will offer blessing of graves after the mass.
Blessings, Fr. Jason

Bendiciones, Fr. Jason

IN GOD ALONE
Isaiah speaks to us today of Cyrus, King of Persia, anointed by the Lord. God calls Cyrus by name and leads him in service to the Israelites. In this passage we hear that it is the Lord who gives Cyrus his title, who arms him against his enemies, and who opens doors and unbars gates before him. And God does all of this so that the people will know that “I am the L ,” and that “there is none besides me” (Isaiah 45:6).
Paul opens his letter with essentially the same notion—
that in God alone we find our grace and peace. Paul also gives thanks to God on our behalf, calling to mind our work of faith, hope, and love. And in the familiar Gospel reading, Jesus tells the Pharisees to give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.
