Alleluia! He is Risen! ~ Again we are blessed with an appearance story of Jesus. This one takes place ‘Easter night’. Two disciples experience Jesus on the road to Emmaus without recognizing him while on the journey. Jesus gives them no hint that it is he except that he dives into the scriptures, especially those that “referred to him”. Later, they would comment: “Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us?” But still they did not recognize him. Having arrived at their destination, they invited Jesus to stay with them, for it was already late. Stay he did. “And it happened that, while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him; but he vanished from their sight.” The moment was ‘Eucharistic’. The details matched what had happened only days before – before the fateful arrest, condemnation, and brutal killing of Jesus. He broke the bread – and immediate recognition occurred. They discovered him in that breaking of the bread. He had already ‘broken open’ the Word – the Scriptures. Eucharist! The Lord was/is present among them/us. This story is our story as Church. It is why we gather each Sunday; each day if we desire. Together, as present day disciples of the Lord, we find ourselves joined in celebration to ‘break open the Word’ and to ‘break the bread’. We share this: Word, Bread, Cup, Faith, Prayer. All of this binds us together in the Lord. At the deepest level of our Spirit, Jesus comes among us and is recognized and shared through these Eucharistic moments. He gave us the perfect activity/ritual. Eat! Share! Drink! Listen! Open! Welcome! If we stop and think about it, Jesus chose the most intimate communal gathering where love and comfort and peace collide – a meal. We don’t just eat. We eat and share and commune and become more ONE! This is indeed a holy meal. This is the mixing of human and divine. In our remembering – Jesus truly becomes present. Remembering is the way to bring past to present and to experience its power still. The past is our present when it opens within our spirit the remembered truths and power. Alleluia! He is Risen! And look – we too have come to know him in the breaking of the bread!

The Divine Mercy Mass and Chaplet will be here this Tuesday,

Faustina’s Relic will be here next Sunday, May 11, at 3:00p.m.

GROUP WEDDINGS 2014

The Group Weddings will be on: June 14 at 1:00p.m. and November 15 at 12noon. Some of the preparation will take place in a group setting and the Wedding Mass will be celebrated for all of the participating couples. For information please call the Rectory.

CARDINAL McINTYRE FUND FOR CHARITY

The Cardinal McIntyre Fund for Charity Annual Collection will be taken up TODAY. This Fund for Charity has offered hope for those in crisis situations throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The goal of the Cardinal McIntyre Fund for Charity is service to the “neediest of the needy,” those for whom no other resources exist. Your contribution goes toward emergency situations for needy people and provides one-time emergency help for food, utilities, medical, housing or funeral expenses. Special envelopes are in the pews.

MOTHER’S DAY NOVENA OF MASSES

A novena of Masses for those mothers, living or deceased whose names are given to us will begin next Sunday, May 11th and conclude on Monday, May 19. Cards and envelopes are available in the church. The envelopes with the names can be placed in the regular collection or left at the church office. For living mothers there are cards in the package which can be given to them.

¡Aleluya! ¡Ha resucitado ! ~ Una vez más hemos sido bendecidos con una historia de las apariciones de Jesús. Ésta se lleva a cabo 'la noche de Pascua’. Dos discípulos experimentan (viven) la presencia de Jesús en su camino a Emaús sin reconocerlo. Jesús no les da ningún indicio de que es él, excepto cuando se sumerge en las Escrituras, especialmente las que ‘se refieren a él.’ Más tarde, ellos comentarían: "¿Con

razón nuestro corazón ardía, mientras nos hablaba por el camino y nos explicaba las escrituras!” Pero aún todavía no le

reconocieron. Al llegar a su destino, invitaron a Jesús a quedarse con ellos, porque era ya tarde. Y se quedó con ellos. "Y

cuando estaban a la mesa, tomó un pan, pronunció la bendición, lo partió y se los dio. Entonces se les abrieron los ojos y lo reconocieron, pero él se les desapareció." Fue un momento ‘Eucarístico'. Los datos corresponden a lo que había pasado sólo

días antes - antes del fatídico arresto, de la condenación, y brutal asesinato de Jesús. Él partió el pan - y se produjo el reconocimiento inmediato. Lo descubrieron en la fracción del pan. Ya había ‘dado a conocer’ la Palabra; las Escrituras. La Eucaristía! El Señor estaba presente entre ellos y está presente entre nosotros. Esta historia es nuestra historia como Iglesia. Es por eso que nos reunimos todos los domingos y pudiéramos hacerlo todos los días si quisiéramos. Juntos, como discípulos actuales nos reunimos en la celebración para 'abrir la Palabra' y para 'partir el pan'. Compartimos: Palabra, Pan, Vino, Fe, y Oración. Todo esto nos une en el Señor. Al nivel más profundo de nuestro Espíritu, Jesús viene a nosotros y es reconocido y compartido por medio de estos momentos Eucarísticos. Él nos dio el perfecto ritual. Coman! Compartan! Beban! ¡Escuchen! Abran! ¡Den la bienvenida! Si nos detenemos a pensar un poco nos daremos cuenta de que Jesús escogió la reunión comunitaria más íntima, donde el amor, el consuelo y la paz chocan — una cena. No sólo comemos. Comemos, compartimos, nos volvemos algo más que UNO! Esta es indudablemente una cena sagrada. Una mezcla de lo humano y lo divino. Jesús realmente se hace presente. El recordar es traer el pasado al presente y experimentar su poder. El pasado es nuestro presente cuando se abren dentro de nuestro espíritu las verdades recordadas y su poder. ¡Aleluya! ¡Ha resucitado! También nosotros hemos llegado a conocerlo en la fracción del pan!

Un mensaje de la Arquidiócesis y la

Barra de Abogados de California

La Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles está trabajando junto con la Barra de Abogados de California en un importante esfuerzo para proteger a la comunidad inmigrante del fraude relacionado a la Reforma Migratoria.

A Message from the Archdiocese and The State Bar of California

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles is working closely with The State Bar of California in an effort to protect the immigrant community from fraud during the pending Immigration Reform.

GET ON THE BUS

On the Friday before Mother’s Day, Get on the Bus will bring more than 1000 children from throughout the state to visit their mothers at prison. Due to distance and poverty, this is the only day each year that most of these children will get to see their mother. Get on the Bus provides each child free transportation, meals, activities, travel bags, and a family photograph taken during the visit. Please help this important project.
