Term Tests for 12th grade will take place from MONDAY 29TH MAY to THURSDAY 1ST JUNE. The schedule for 12th grade Term Tests is the following.

During this period, classes will begin as usual at 7:30 a.m. and will end at 12:45 p.m. Students must go home once this schedule is completed. Students are not permitted to remain in areas around the school after they have completed their exams.

Paper 1 : Commentary on use of language in the passage(s) – Candidates will identify distinguishing features of the texts, relate them to the function and context of the writing, and organise information in their answers.

• Comment on aspects such as vocabulary, figurative language (e.g. use of metaphor and simile), word ordering and sentence structure, formality/informality of tone, and the communication of attitudes, bias or prejudice, structure

• Write for a specific purpose and/or audience using appropriate vocabulary, tone, and style.

• Directed writing task based on the passage(s) – students should be aware of the major themes, character analysis and be able to respond to questions such as: Comment on aspects such as vocabulary, figurative language (e.g. use of metaphor and simile), word ordering and sentence structure, formality/informality of tone, and the communication of attitudes, bias or prejudice, structure

• Write for a specific purpose and/or audience using appropriate vocabulary, tone, and style.

Paper 2 - Composition - Argumentative or Discursive Writing.

• Answer one question from Section A or one question from Section B. • All questions carry equal marks.

• You should write between 600–900 words.

You must show your understanding of how the poet presents the Victorian society in her writing. (Social and historical context)

Paper 7 – Comment and Appreciation

You will be given one unseen passage where you will be expected to focus on

language/imagery/form/structure and then explain how meaning is created. You must have an understanding on the following features of unseen passages:

• Metaphor • Personification • Onomatopoeia • Alliteration

• Line lengths and its effect

• Imperatives/exclamatory sentences • Plosives

• Sibilance • Symbolism

*State the distinguishing properties of solids, liquids and gases

*Describe the structure of solids, liquids and gases in terms of particle separation, arrangement and types of motion

IV. FRENCH 12B :

Vocabulaire: Le tourisme et la pollution.

Lecture: Il faudra trouver 5 synonymes dans le texte et ensuite il y aura 10 questions où les réponses ne pourront pas être paraphrasées.

Grammaire : Il faudra changer une phrase de la forme passive à la forme active. Ecriture: Une rédaction de 350 avec pour thème le vocabulaire ci-dessus.
