RESEARCH ACTIVITIES Narcotrafficking in Latin America
The works studied explore the drug trade in Latin America. They highlight the cultivation and
complex
system of production, transportation and commercialization of drugs to North America and Europe, usually with a journalistic and literary focus. A study of Colombian drug cartels and their peculiar modus operandi constitutes the core of this research. Probably the most important aspect of this literature is the subject itself rather than aesthetic concerns. This study will contribute to the understanding of narcotrafficking in Colombia and will be an indispensable text for scholars who wish to approach the problem from a multi-disciplinary perspective.
La ficcionalización de Simón Bolívar en la narrativa latinoamericana contemporánea (1990-2004)
Over the last two decades, the fictionalization of history in the Latin American narrative has been predominant as a very effective strategy to interrogate key factors of socio-cultural processes and to propose new theoretical perspectives on this matter. The recent Colombian narrative has approached this issue by presenting the Latin American Liberator Simón Bolívar as a character whose personal and military life embodies a deep and critical reflection on current Latin American issues.The literary devices applied to delineate Simón Bolívar’s profile becomes the means through which the Colombian writers display their concerns and the art of writing as a distinctive one in contemporary literary expressions.
