Cuaderno del Padre Father’s Notebook
Greetings brothers and sisters,
As everyone is coming back from winter break and beginning another season of work and school, the parish life is also beginning up again. Youth Group and
Sacramental prep is beginning, and we are beginning the liturgical season of Ordinary Time. It can seem like
“Ordinary Time” is simply “business as usual” and that we can move away from the focus of Christmas and the birth of Christ or put off thinking about Lent and Easter with the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ, but that would be mistaken.
I find myself easily distracted the most during Ordinary Time from what God is doing in my life. When I was in seminary, it was an intense time of formation and growth. We lived at the seminary and had morning and evening prayer every day, as well as daily Mass. Then we had communal meals together, and had class during the day and formation meetings in the evening. You can say our whole life was structured and intentional. And for me the real test of whether God was truly forming me into a better person, into a holy seminarian, would be when the seminary had breaks for winter or summer. It was on Christmas break, when I had to leave the seminary and go home, and all the obligations and schedules of the seminary were put aside, that I got to see if I could still live a life close to the Lord and have time for prayer, Mass and spiritual growth, as well as much needed rest and play.
Yet if I was honest, often time, breaks would be a serious awakening of how much I had not integrated my life with my faith and relationship with God and how much more I still needed to work at forming those virtues still (with the grace of God, of course).
Brothers and sisters, Ordinary Time I think, is analogous for most Christians as my breaks were for seminary. As we move away from a focus of Christ birth and his presence in the world (Advent and Christmas), do we lose awareness his presence completely? Because it is not yet Lent and Easter, do I not recognize the power of the Cross and Resurrection occurring in my life now? Each year the Church gives us cycles of seasons that focus on different aspects of Christ and his saving work in the world to help us integrate the truth of the Christian way of life more deeply in our hearts. I pray that in the following weeks, you continue to carry the presence of Christ in the world with you and that you never lose sight of Him in the ordinary happenings of everyday life. You are in my prayers this week.
Pax Christi,
Fr. Khoi
Saludos hermanos y hermanas,
Pax Christi,
Padre Khoi

SUNDAY MASS ATTENDANCE
Sunday Masses have resumed with an adjusted
schedule. Please see the schedule below as masses are designated by last name or age.
However, please note, the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days has been suspended by the bishop at this time. If you choose to remain at home, you can still participate at Sunday Mass via livestream. The weekday masses are also being live streamed via our parish's Facebook page. Also, the weekday masses have much smaller crowds, if you prefer to attend in person during the week.
REMEMBER: If you are exhibiting any signs or symptoms associated with the coronavirus, or have been exposed to someone who is ill, PLEASE REMAIN AT HOME. This is an act of charity to our friends and neighbors.
Members who are 65 and older are encouraged to stay home during this time, but if you still wish to come to Mass, we ask that you attend the 5:00 p.m. Saturday evening Mass that is designated for those 60 and older.
Masks are mandatory before entering the church. Hand sanitizer must be used upon entering and social
distancing of 6ft must be followed.
Also, gathering in the gathering space is not allowed at this time.
