In recent years when I visit home in Wales, I take the opportunity to go through photos and personal belongings from my childhood.
On one visit I came across the picture of my First
Communion, so I captured the image with my cellphone to keep for posterity.
Seeing that picture again reminded of the very day when it was taken and I remember the very moment it was taken, the wooden kneeler upon which I posed and the feeling of excitement.
It was an important day. It was the very first time I received Jesus in the form of bread. I received His body. It changed me and marked the direction of my life. Even if I were to do something foolish like renounce my faith, that photo would still exist to remind me of a very pivotal moment in my life.
Once we know Jesus and receive Him in Holy Communion, there is no going back. Our lives are changed. All those people who have lapsed from the practice of the Faith, each one has a picture of their First Communion. You cannot take that back. You can never say “I never received Jesus. I do not know Him”.
Jesus changes our lives with the Bread from Heaven.
It is His body of which we are a part and sooner or later in life we have to embrace that.
Many parents are saddened when their children drift away from the Church and wonder “What did I do wrong?”
Nothing. You did nothing wrong and everything right. You gave your children Jesus. That does not go away. Little by little Jesus will draw them to Him.
He always does. So have Faith and practice Hope and maybe dig out the pictures of their First Communion!
Cuando visito Gales, aprovecho la oportunidad de buscar en mis fotos y pertenencias de mi niñez.
En una de esas visitas me encontré con la foto de mi Primera Comunión, y le tome una foto con mi teléfono para conservarla para la posteridad.
El ver esta fotografía nuevamente, me recordó de aquel día en que me la tomaron, el reclinatorio de madera, mi pose, y ese sentimiento de alegría.
Fué un día muy importante. Fue la primera vez que recibí a Jesús en la forma de pan. Recibí Su cuerpo.
Ese acontecimiento me cambió y marcó la dirección de mi vida. Aún si hiciera algo tonto como renunciar a mi fé, esa foto aún existiría para recordarme de ese momento en mi vida tan esencial.
Una vez que conocemos a Jesús, y lo recibimos en la Sagrada Comunión, no hay vuelta atrás. Nuestras vidas cambian. Todas esas gentes que han caído de la práctica de la Fé, todos tienen una foto de su Primera Comunión. Eso no desaparece. No podemos decir,
“Nunca recibí a Jesús. No lo conozco.”
Jesús cambia nuestras vidas con el Pan del Cielo.
Es Su cuerpo del que somos parte y tarde o temprano en la vida tenemos que abrazarlo.
Muchos padres se entristecen cuando sus hijos se alejan de la Iglesia y se preguntan "¿Qué hice mal?"
Nada. No hiciste nada malo y todo bien. Le diste a tus
hijos a Jesús. Eso no desaparece. Poco a poco Jesús los
atraerá hacia él. Siempre lo hace. ¡Así que tengan Fe
y practiquen la Esperanza y tal vez busquen
las imágenes de su Primera Comunión!

The Ministry of Care is one of the oldest ministries in the church. The renewal of this ministry among the laity is one of the gifts of the Second Vatican Council. Ministers of Care visit and bring Eucharist to residents of nursing homes, the hospitalized and the homebound.
At CHS, the Ministry of Care has been a powerful witness to God’s presence over the years. At this time we are recruiting new people for this Ministry.
A training session will be offered in the fall.

Christian Meditation at CHS
In our noisy fast-pace lives, it is often hard to hear God’s voice. Are you longing for a moment to be still and listen? Are you looking for peace to face daily challenges?
Then... come to the quiet. Join the Christian Meditation group in the Worship Space on Monday’s at 6:00 p.m.
Each session lasts about 45 minutes. No previous experience necessary.
