Scopia Desktop Installation Guide
To attend a video conference using a desktop / laptop computer we recommend using our Scopia Desktop Conference client software. These installation instructions for the Conference Client software are offered to ensure a positive video conferencing experience. This software download only takes a few minutes to complete.
Desktop / Laptop Video Conferencing
We recommend using head phones or an echo cancelling audio device on your system to prevent audio feedback and echoing from computer microphone and speakers during the conference. Also a built in, or portable USB, web camera is required for video conferencing.
*Please disable any antivirus protection software before beginning the software download. Re-enable the antivirus protection software once downloads are completed.
1. Go to http://www.videoconferencia.unal.edu.co; on the Scopia web page, under " There are updates to Scopia Desktop components available" click on the link "Click here to install these updates" to download the Conference Client software.
2. Click "Download" button to install "Scopia Desktop Install Manager".
3. Click "Run" button for "File Download - Security Warning box" (or "Save" to save to your desktop to run later). 4. Click "Run" for "Internet Explorer Security Warning" box.
5. Verify there is a check mark in the "Conference Client" box (do not install the additional two components, "Scopia Add-In for Microsoft Office", and the "Contact List", unless instructed to do so). Click "Install" button.
6. The Conference Client software will begin downloading to your system.
7. Once the Conference Client software has completed downloading click on the "Close" button to complete the Scopia Desktop Conference Client download. If the download was successful there should be a "Conference Client" icon placed on your Windows Task bar.
8. The "Scopia Desktop Meeting" portal screen will open.
9. On the Scopia Desktop Meeting portal screen there is a window for your name, and a window for the meeting ID. Enter your name in the appropriate window.
a. Click on the "Check Your Audio" link. A "Settings - Audio" page will open; verify your audio device is selected in the "Record"
and "Playback" sections, and then select the "Start Audio Test" button, to verify audio output from your system. Make sure you can hear an echo of what you speak into the microphone. Also, if audio output is functioning properly the green bars in both sections will move across the volume boxes. If the green bars do not move make sure your audio device is properly selected and try the audio test again. Once audio output is confirmed click "Apply" and "OK" buttons at bottom of page.
b. Click the "Check Your Video" link. A "Settings - Video" page will open; verify your video output device is selected in the
"Capture" section, and then select the "Preview" button, to verify that video output from your system is operating properly. If you do not receive video output make sure you selected the correct video device and try the "Preview" button again. Once video output is confirmed click "Apply" and "OK" buttons at bottom of the page.

Presentations:
1. If you plan to provide a presentation from your desktop / laptop system during the conference meeting it is recommended that you install the optional collaboration driver for PC presentations onto your system from within a SD conference (you may do this upon entering a conference the first time or at a later time). Installing the driver will provide better performance. To install the driver enter your name and Meeting ID and click the "Participate Now" button to enter your conference.
a. Once you have entered your conference select the "Present" button at the top of the screen when you are ready to present.
b. When the "Present" or "Share Your Screen or Application" button is clicked a dialog box titled "Scopia Desktop Message" box will appear with the message "The Collaboration Device Driver has not yet been installed. Click the action you wish to take." Select “Install the Driver".
c. The Collaboration Driver installation will begin.
d. When the collaboration driver has been installed a “Share Applications" box will appear giving you the choice of which applications to share. Select the applications you intend to share and click the “OK" button (generally, it is easier to select “Share entire desktop" and then the user can select applications to share at will). Click the “OK" button.
e. Once "OK" button is clicked your system should enter into "Presentation" mode and your system should be presenting whatever application you have chosen to present.
f. To return to conference and end the "Presentation" mode, mouse over the double arrow "Main Menu" button in upper right hand corner of small video screen on upper left hand side, click on it, and select "End Presentation" from drop down menu.
