CALLED BY GOD
Today's scriptures invite us to listen to two calls. The first is the call issued by the LORD to the prophet Amos, the "shepherd and a dresser of
syca-mores" (Amos 7:14). The second is the call the Lord Jesus issued to the Twelve, whom he sent out "two by two" (Mark 6:7). These faithful people responded to the call, prophesying and preaching to the people to whom they had been sent. Each of us received a call when we were baptized. The second reading invites us to ponder that call as we are reminded that we are chosen in Christ and that, in love, God "destined us for adoption" (Ephesians 1:5). As adopted daughters and sons of God we are called to bring the presence of Christ into our marriages, families, schools, and places of work. Let us be in-spired today to say yes to the call we hear once again through God's living word.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL/PRIMER DÍA DE ESCUELA
Dear St. Louis of France Community,
I am honored to begin my journey here among the St. Louis of France School community. I am a true believer that God places us where he wants us and with that said I am blessed to have been given this op-portunity to serve in partnership with you as we work towards the academic and spiritual growth of our school.
I acknowledge that change is difficult and the unknown can be scary, but I can assure you I am committed to providing your children an environment that is safe and conducive to learning. I am fully com-mitted to the students, our school and the community. Just like you, I also have made sacrifices to ensure that my three children had the opportunity to receive a Catholic education and believe the importance of in-stilling Catholic values throughout the academic years. It is for this reason I am committed to fostering the academic success of our students.
I am a product of Catholic Education. My par-ents made the sacrifice to send my siblings and me to Catholic School from first grade through twelfth grade. We attended Miraculous Medal and San Gabri-el Mission High School. I attended Loyola Marymount University, where I earned my Masters in Elementary Education and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. I also hold a Masters Degree in Educational Admin-istration from California State University, Northridge.
I have worked in the field of education for over twenty years, thirteen of those years with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. I have taught all grade levels. I also have been on the leadership team, collab-orating on best practices to improve student learning. I had the opportunity to lead the Sea Perch Robotic Club to compete in a state-wide competition.
I am committed to working collaboratively to bring a deeper meaning to our Catholic faith. I will facilitate a school environment that will provide the best possible academic instruction which meets the needs of each student. I will continue to partner with parents, teachers, staff and community to empower our students to succeed. There will be an ongoing fo-cus to inspire all students to share the unique gifts God has given them with our school community and beyond.
Pope Benedict XVI said, “No child should be denied his or her right to an education in faith, which in turn nurtures the soul of a nation.” I believe when all involved: parents, teachers and church community, we can nurture the “whole” child to become a lifelong learner who puts God first, commits to academic ex-cellence and gives back to his/her community. In Christ,
Lorraine Ovalle,
Principal, St. Louis of France
