Dear Parents,
As we embark on the Thanksgiving holiday, I wanted to take the time to extend a sincere thanks to all of our parents. The support you give your child at home and our staff is truly appreciated. As I mentioned at our first PTA meeting, this year’s theme is “Together we can and together we will make a difference”. We believe with home and school collaboration; we will accomplish this goal. The staff would like to show their appreciation by inviting you and your family to our Annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Monday, November 21st at 5:00pm.

Estimados Padres,
Conforme nos embarcamos en otra celebración de Acción de Gracias, quería tomar el tiempo de extenderles mi gratitud a todos los padres. El apoyo que les da a su hijo en casa y a nuestro personal es verdaderamente apreciado. Como les mencione en nuestra primera junta del PTA, el tema de este año es “Juntos podemos, y juntos haremos la diferencia”. Creemos que
colaborando la casa y la escuela vamos a lograr esta meta. A nuestro personal le gustaría mostrar su apreciación invitando a su familia a nuestra Cena de Acción de Gracias Anual el 21 de noviembre a las 5:00 pm. Esperamos servirles a sus familias. Espero que hayan tenido una celebración de Acción de Gracias maravillosa.

Dear Parents,
Has your child come home with a sticker that says “I earned a Gilly today! Ask me how!” If they have, please do ask them which teacher or staff member gave it to them and why! Congratulate them and remind them of how proud you are that they showed responsible, respectful behavior. Besides giving Gillys, another way we reinforce great student behavior is with weekly character awards. Has your child brought home a certificate signed by Mrs. Sprowls? If so, they also had their picture taken and that picture is proudly displayed on our Wall of Fame board by the library!
Teachers and staff members are always looking out for students who show respectful, responsible and ready to learn behavior. Students know their classroom rules and are always expected to be GREAT every day. They also know that Level One behaviors, such as refusing to follow directions, talking at inappropriate times and not doing classwork can inhibit their learning as well as the learning of other students. At this level, teachers usually have a private conversation with students and remind them of expected behavior. For most of the students, this is enough. However, if students exhibit behavior such as arguing with the teacher and talking back, talking on a regular basis or using inappropriate language, they have reached Level 2 behavior. Students will receive some additional intervention from the classroom teacher, school counselor or other adult. A Level 3 behavior such as hitting, threatening or running from class requires an office referral and parent phone call.
We are always so proud of our students for making good choices and doing their best every day to fully
engage in all learning opportunities. Thank you for supporting our efforts and please continue reinforcing and rewarding good behavior at home.

Parents! Mr. Kush Jenkins, Professor at NOVA and founder of The Birthday Smiles Project, has provided Guilford students with a very generous offer to help you celebrate your child’s birthday! If you celebrate birthdays and would like to participate, parents will receive a gift card for a birthday cake! Please see Mrs. Thompson, School Counselor or Mrs. Ly, Parent Liaison if you would like a gift card for a birthday cake.

Felicítenlos y recuérdenles lo orgulloso que están porque han mostraron un comportamiento responsable y respetuoso. Si es así, también tienen su foto tomada y que se muestra con orgullo en nuestro Muro de la fama por la biblioteca!
Los maestros y miembros del personal siempre están al tanto de estudiantes que muestran comportamiento respetuoso, responsable y que están listos para aprender. Los estudiantes saben las reglas de la clase y siempre se espera que estén FANTASTICOS todos los días. También saben El Nivel Uno de Comportamiento, tales como negarse a seguir instrucciones, hablar en momentos inadecuados y no hacer el trabajo de clase puede inhibir su aprendizaje, así como el aprendizaje de otros estudiantes. En este nivel, los profesores suelen tener una conversación privada con los estudiantes y les recuerdan el comportamiento esperado. Para la mayoría de los estudiantes, esto es suficiente. Sin embargo, si los estudiantes muestran un comportamiento como el de discutir con el profesor y hablar de nuevo, hablando de forma regular o el uso de lenguaje inapropiado, que han llegado a la conducta Nivel 2. Los estudiantes recibirán algún tipo de intervención adicional por parte del maestro, consejero escolar u otro adulto. Un

Siempre estamos muy orgullosos de nuestros estudiantes por tomar buenas decisiones y cuando hacen todo lo posible todos los días para participar plenamente en todas las oportunidades de aprendizaje. Oh say can you see…the Singing Gators first performance?! On October 14
th, at Park View High School, the Singing Gators put on their very performance of the year! They performed a beautiful rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner with other 5
thgraders from Forest Grove, Sterling, Sully, and Rolling Ridge; and don’t forget some members of the Park View High School Band!
It has been a lot of hard work, but the students did a FANTASTIC job! Not only were they learning and practicing the lyrics/melody of the song, but they even learned the history of how the Star-Spangled Banner became our National Anthem and why a nation’s anthem is so important! If you do not know the history behind it, ask a 5
thgrader and prepare to be amazed!
The Singing Gators performed their hearts out and showed true honor and respect
to our great nation. Plus, they were TOTALLY styling in our brand new Singing
Gators shirts! Way to go Gators! You made Guilford and America proud!

Oh, miren lo que pueden ver ... la primera actuación del canto Cocodrilos ?! El 14 de octubre, en el Park View High School, los Cocodrilos presentarán su primera actuación del año! Realizaron una bella versión del Himno Nacional con otros estudiantes de 5to grado de Forest Grove, Sterling, Sully, y Rolling Ridge; y no se olvide de algunos miembros de la Banda de la Escuela Park View!
Ha habido un montón de trabajo duro, pero los estudiantes hicieron un trabajo fantástico! No sólo estaban aprendiendo y practicando la letras / melodía de la canción, sino que incluso aprendieron la historia de cómo el Star-Spangled Banner se convirtió en nuestro himno nacional y por qué el himno de una nación es tan importante! Si usted no sabe la historia detrás de él, pedirle a un estudiante de 5º grado y prepararse para ser sorprendido!
Los cocodrilos de canto a cabo con todo el corazón y mostraron verdadero honor y el respeto a nuestra gran nación. Además, ellos estarán vestidos TOTALMENTE en nuestro nuevo camisetas de los Cocodrilos de canto! Así se hace cocodrilos!

Description of Activity: Fall Show- Students will perform songs about Fall as a grade level in the cafeteria followed by an art gallery wall in the Kindergarten hallway.

Description of Activity: Students will perform a concert with songs about Thanksgiving and being thankful .
