History of Catholic Church By Deacon Rajan Article 1
Why Church history? C.S Lewis said, the growth of the Church is like a long conversation. If the conversation started at 10 AM and if we joined the conversation at 3 P.M, we would hardly follow the discussion unless someone updates us. To fully grasp where we fit into the Church, we need to understand her history. Church history is important because, the events in the Bible and the evangelization happens at different points in the history of mankind. As we all know, in recent times, the Church endured some rough times due to the scandals. The media projected these unfortunate events with a magnifying glass. When people think of the Church, these scandals come to their minds. Who will want to be part of such a church? I decided to dig into her past and found that our Church is not a stranger to scandals. At the same time, however, her contributions outweighed the scandals several folds. I decided to share some important events from the Church history to my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. The life of our mother Church can be presented in many ways. I have decided to present her chronologically by pointing out some events that I perceived as important ones. Wherever I use scripture references, I will be using the NRSVCE translation as this is suitable for studies. During the mass we use New American Bible Revised Edition (NABRE).

¿Por qué la historia de la Iglesia? C.S Lewis dijo que el crecimiento de la Iglesia es como una larga conversación. Si la conversación comenzó a las 10 a. m. y si nos unimos a la
conversación a las 3 p. m., difícilmente seguiríamos la discusión a menos que alguien nos actualice. Para comprender completamente dónde encajamos en la Iglesia, necesitamos entender su historia. La historia de la iglesia es importante también porque los eventos en la Biblia y la evangelización suceden en diferentes puntos de la historia de la humanidad. Como todos sabemos, en los últimos tiempos, la Iglesia atravesó momentos difíciles debido a los escándalos. Los medios de comunicación proyectaron estos lamentables hechos con lupa.
Cuando la gente piensa en la Iglesia, estos escándalos vienen a su mente. ¿Quién querrá ser parte de tal iglesia? Decidí indagar en su pasado y descubrí que nuestra Iglesia no es ajena a los escándalos. Al mismo tiempo, sin embargo, sus contribuciones superaron a los escándalos.
Decidí compartir algunos eventos importantes de la historia de la Iglesia con mis hermanos y hermanas en Cristo. La vida de nuestra Madre Iglesia se puede presentar de muchas maneras.
He decidido presentarla cronológicamente señalando algunos eventos que percibí como importantes. Siempre que use referencias de las Escrituras, usaré la traducción NRSVCE, ya que es adecuada para los estudios. Durante la misa usamos New American Bible Revised Edition (NABRE).
