Biology II and lab Semestre Second Periodo Académico January-June 2018
Coordinador de Cuerpo
colegiado: Alejandro Enrique Cruz Vargas
PROPÓSITO:
The purpose is to familiarize students with the structure and function of the human body, the most common diseases that can come out, as well as actions intended to keep healthy, everything applied to real situations in order to give students a basic knowledge of the body, in a way that helps in his/her welfare taking over responsibly the taking of decisions related to health.
The first step begins with the concepts related to health, disease and homeostasis understanding how this mechanism maintains a delicate equilibrium in the different body systems, from the cellular level, going through tissues, organs and the systems that form the human body. The study of the different organ systems is covered along the learning unit, emphasizing the structure and function of the main organs that are part of them and how they are related to health.
Students will also have the opportunity to do documentary research and apply Information and Communication Technology to develop search abilities and information processing; abilities that have an impact on self-learning and development of competences.
The program that follows, is a tool that supports the process of teacher planning and student work, and for this purpose, teachers may adapt to their context the suggested activities for the development of competences.
COMPETENCIAS GENERALES:
3 Chooses and practices healthy lifestyles.
° Makes decisions considering valuation of consequences of different consumption habits and risk conducts.
4 Listens, interprets and emits relevant messages in different contexts by means of the usage of media, codes and appropriate tools.
Expresses ideas and concepts by means of linguistic, mathematic or graph representations.
o Identify main ideas in a text or speech and infer conclusions.
o Handling of information technology and communication in order to get information and express ideas.
6. Support a personal attitude on interesting topics and general relevance, considering other points of view in a critical and reflexive manner.
o Structures ideas and arguments in a clear, coherent and synthetic way.

Teenage Health.
Competence elements:
Teenage Health.
Defines the concepts of health, disease and homeostasis to identify information related to the maintenance of the body.
Identifies the relationship between nutrients and the foods where they are contained to explain the importance of an adequate diet for a teenager.
Relates the levels of organization of the human body with the organ systems to interpret the interaction among the different systems.
Assesses the consequences of his dietary habits considering risk behaviors on the care of health.
Relates the causes of infectious diseases with the mechanisms of body defense for the maintenance of health.UNIT 2
Skeletal, Muscular and Integumentary
Competence elements:
Describes the structure and function of skeletal, muscle and integumentary systems with the purpose of understanding support, movement and protection of the body.
Values the importance of ideal functioning of skeletal, muscle and integumentary systems in health care.UNIT 3
Circulatory, Respiratory and Nervous System
Competence Elements:
Describe the structure and function of circulatory, respiratory and nervous system with the purpose of understanding how the circulatory and respiratory systems are closely related in function and, how the nervous system controls the functions of the body.
Value the importance of the ideal functioning of the circulatory, respiratory and nervous systems in health care.UNIT 4
Endocrine, Reproductive and Excretory System
Describe the structure and function of the endocrine and reproductive systems in order to relate different hormones with vital processes and, in the development and functioning of the male and female reproductive systems.
Describe the structure and function of the excretory system with the purpose of understanding how it helps maintain homeostasis in the body.
Values the importance of the ideal functioning of the endocrine, reproductive and excretory systems in health care.CRITERIOS DE EVALUACIÓN:
COURSE EVALUATION
Evaluation Criteria:3 exams will be taken during the semester: 1 partial exam, a global exam prepared by the academy at CIDEB and a global exam from the DENMS. The exams represent 40 % of the final grade. The portfolio represents 60% of the final grade.
*In order to have the right to get all the points from the stages you must get a 70 or more on each exam,
for example if you got a 70 or more on your exam, you WILL BE ABLE to get the whole 100 points from the stage but, if in the exam you get a 53 you would only be able to achieve 80% or less from the points of the stage. Stage 2 will be affected by the first partial. Stage 4 will be affected by the global internal. The table below explains this. The biology academy will
work along with the
Chemistry and English
academies in a project
called STEM. The
directions, procedures as
well as rubrics will be provided to the students during the first week of class. The portfolio grade in every stage will be given by the STEM project revision in every stage. The portfolio activities are a requirement to get that grade.
The Integrative product will be evaluated with a review activity described in detail

If students fail this course, they must have 70 or more points in portfolio in order
to have the chance to take the 2
ndopportunity exam. If average is below 70,
students do not have chance to take 2
ndopportunity exam and will go straight to 3
rdopportunity.
